A doctoral-level researcher position is available at the International Vaccine Institute (www.ivi.int)based in Seoul, South Korea with contract duration of 2 years. The successful candidate will conduct projects studying global burden of disease and impact of vaccines for cholera and typhoid fever using mathematical and statistical models. The tasks will involve identifying information on the diseases and the vaccines and developing strategies to model the burden and impact of vaccines. The selected applicant is expected to execute the project and during the process, prepare manuscripts, help write grant proposals and generate independent research questions. Our research team is a member of the Vaccine Impact Modelling Consortium(https://www.vaccineimpact.org/) based in Imperial College London, which comprises over 40 disease modeling experts in the world. This project will involve interacting with fellow modelers and also global funding agencies such as Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (https://www.gavi.org/) and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (https://www.gatesfoundation.org/).


The ideal candidate should have completed a Ph.D. (or M.Sc. with substantial practical experience) in epidemiology, statistics, applied mathematics, health economics, or other highly quantitative fields. The position requires fluency in a computer programming language (preferably R) and good oral and written English communication skills. 1. Job Description:

This job is responsible for conducting activities focused on infectious disease modeling in

professional collaboration with various departments and programs within and outside IVI


Main Roles & Responsibilities:

1) Conduct of PER research projects

  • Develop research plan, write protocol, and update tools for Policy and Economics Research studies under the supervision of a senior scientist
  • Implement all aspects of data collection activities in the field and conduct economic and econometric analysis as per the research plan independently
  • Perform any other relevant task requested by the supervisor

2) PER research, data analyses and data dissemination

  • Write manuscript and develop presentations on the research work with minimum support from supervisor
  • Develop research ideas and provide support in writing grant proposals

3)  Represent Policy and Economics Research within IVI, support institutional activities and effectively communicate with external collaborators


2. Job Requirements and Qualifications:

1) Education Requirements

  • Ph.D., Master’s degree or equivalent (Epidemiology, Statistics, applied mathematics, health policy, other highly quantitative fields)

2) Related Field Work Experience

  • Ph.D. or equivalent: 3+ years
  • M.Sc. or equivalent: 7+ years

3) Technical and Professional Skills / Knowledge

  • Infectious disease modeling and health economics
  • Statistical analysis (statistical inference, maximum likelihood, Bayesian inference)
  • Proficiency in programming language (preferably R with C++ or Java)
  • Knowledge in infectious disease, global health, vaccine, disease burden, cost effectiveness analysis

4) Language Proficiency

  • Fluency in English
