Steve’s Camp at Horizon Farms (SCHF) seeks a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialists at our Livingston Manor, NY campus during Summer 2021 (July 1 - August 25). 

Job Location: Livingston Manor, NY. Housing provided during summer work.

Steve’s Camp at Horizon Farms (SCHF)seeks a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialist with experience counseling and creating programs and a passion for working with adolescents, helping them cultivate healthy habits, self-reliant lives, and interpersonal skills. SCHF provides free camp-based programs that inspire and empower teens to find healthy pathways to fulfilling purpose-driven lives.  

We seek a dynamic individual who can:

• Create SEL curriculum geared specifically to helping teens process and cope with COVID-19 mental health issues.
•   Train and manage college-age staff to best meet the SEL needs of participants.
• Work individually with participants and staff throughout the summer.

This is a TEMPORARY position covering the following phases:

PRE-CAMP

(20-30hours): Beginning in Late May, the SELSpecialist will help craft SEL goals and work with the camp director to develop goals, write curriculum and develop trainings. The SEL- Specialist will also attend pre-camp planning meetings and Q&A sessions with families and participants. They will also help plan and attend a four-day staff training prior to camp. AT

CAMP (7 weeks): Camp consists of four 12-day sessions. With the leadership team, they will be responsible for campers and staff conduct, discipline, health, and safety. Specifically, the SEL specialist will: 

1. Work with camp director to develop and implement SEL goals/protocols for summer
2. Help plan curriculum and training modules for staff to implement SEL goals at camp (2-4 hrs. of training).
3. Plan and manage all-camp and small-group SEL activities (4-6 hrs of activities to be modified and repeated each session).
4. Convene individual and/or small group counseling sessions focused on processing COVID-19 and remote learning.
5. Troubleshoot any social-emotional issues as they arise.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• CPR + First Aid Certification (valid certification prior to the first program start date)
• Advanced Degree in Social Work or counseling preferred but not required.
• 2 + years working with teens in a youth development setting.
• Experience planning and implementing
• SEL programs experience is a must.
• Strong culture and relationship builder who actively engages and builds staff and campers.
• Excellent communicator who can, lead, support and encourage a team within a close-knit small community.
