Emergency Financial Assistance

Our Emergency Fund program provides critical financial assistance to people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness or another serious emergency. We quickly provide payments on a person’s behalf for things like rent, utilities, or even bus passes. 


Community Partnerships:

Through our Community Partnerships program, we serve as the backbone of Chicago’s city-wide response to homelessness. We partner with 44 agencies and lead them through a year-round research, evaluation, strategic planning, and federal funding application process. 


Data Analytics:

We manage the Homeless Management Information System database, which contains data on Chicagoans experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness and the services they receive. Our team supports more than 900 individual users at 89 partner agencies with training, reports, and helpdesk services. We analyze and disseminate the data to drive discussion, set strategy, and make policy and funding decisions on the federal and local levels.


Training and Research:

We provide trainings, workshops, research, and analysis to help our partners apply proven strategies to prevent and end homelessness in Chicago even more effectively. 


 Position Summary:

The Grants Manager is a key member of the Development and Communications team. The Grants Manager has the primary responsibility of writing All Chicago’s grant proposals and reports and managing a robust grants calendar.


Specific Responsibilities: 

Fund Development – 80%

  • Write and submit all proposals, LOI’s and required grant reports; work with Program and Finance Departments to compile necessary data and financials.
  • Create, monitor and maintain a grants management system, including electronic files, and calendar of activities.
  • Research grant opportunities and grant-making organizations to identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs.
  • Create annual grant proposal and report templates; write and edit grant proposals.
  • Work closely with Vice President of Development & Communications to execute fund development strategies and activities specific to foundations and corporations.
  • Leverage Vice President of Development & Communications in relationship-building opportunities.
  • Create stewardship pieces for foundation program officers. 


Marketing & Communications – 10%  

Collaborate as needed with Development and Program teams on multi-department projects, including the Annual Report, newsletters, website content, online giving, and other donor and constituency communications.


Strategic Planning & Operations – 10%   

  • Actively participate in department and staff meetings.
  • Work closely with the team to execute fundraising and communications strategies with excellence.
  • Complete and execute yearly individual plan.
  • Adhere to strategic plan objectives, as assigned during performance review process.
  • Other duties as assigned by Vice President of Development & Communications.


Qualifications:

Successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to preventing and ending homelessness in Chicago and will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or journalism or equivalent degree or experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in grant writing or similar work.
  • Excellent professional writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong work ethic and integrity. 
  • Goal-oriented and results-driven.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professional presence, and ability to interact with a diverse audience.
  • Passion for inclusivity and diversity, and interest in being part of a multicultural team.


Work Environment

  • Work place is a smoke- and drug-free environment.
  • Intermittent travel to off-site locations required.
  • Position requires frequent and regular computer and phone use.
  • This position requires attendance during regular business hours from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional night and weekend hours are required a few times a year.
