Human Rights Education Organizer (Contract)

Department: Human Rights Education, Speak Truth to Power

Location (one organizer per city): New York City, Memphis, or DC

 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights (RFKHR) seeks a Human Rights Education Organizer in the Human Rights Education Department to lead implementation and expansion of the Speak Truth to Power program in their designated city.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Connecting with school districts, local partner organizations, unions, and universities (focusing on Schools of Education and Social Work); 
  • Identifying lead educators of designated city and perform “Training of Trainers” for educators in local schools;
  • Facilitating training (or directing select groups to RFKHR); 
  • Developing formal partnerships between local groups and RFKHR;
  • Maintaining a contact list to be uploaded to our CRM (Customer Relationship Management System) Salesforce;
  • Conducting monthly check-ins with area educators (ex, Human Rights talks, Social get togethers, etc.);
  • Identify and execute ways to achieve shared impact across other RFKHR programs, to mobilize RFKHR stakeholders in support of the work, and to increase the visibility of RFKHR and our work before the general public;
  • All new staff will undergo an introductory period of three (3) months as a training and learning period;
  • Do your part in keeping our operations running smoothly - tracking your hours and submitting timecards in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

  • Physically based one of the following cities: New York, Memphis, or DC
  • Knowledge of the city educational history and existing connections within the local education system (i.e. union, board or department of education);
  • At least 4 years of work or volunteer experience and/or interest in teaching, conducting trainings, professional development, education, and the nonprofit sector;
  • Awareness and interest in current events and issues relating to human rights around the world;
  • Ability to successfully work remotely and stay connected with teams; 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and presentation tools such as Powerpoint;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Attention to detail, you’re able to scope out errors and willing to fix mistakes;
  • Time management, you have the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at once;
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information;
  • Innovative thinking, a willingness to voice opinions, and a strong work ethic are essential; 
  • Teamwork, you are able to build positive relationships with your colleagues and are willing to help others;
  • Inclusive, you’re excited to work with colleagues with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives from your own.

Availability and Compensation:

  • The initial period of work will be 6 months beginning June 2021 and ending in December 2021. Option to extend dependent on deliverables;
  • Available 10 hours per week;
  • Part-time, monthly pay at rate of $40 /hour;
  • This position is eligible for overtime pay.
