Position Summary:

Masa is a community-based organization that partners with Latino immigrant children, youth, and families to develop strong learners and leaders who fully engage in and contribute to the broader community. 

The Program Associate plays an essential role in supporting curriculum design for and implementation of our after-school programs, which serve nearly 200 underserved children in Kindergarten through 8thgrade annually. The vast majority of participants are children of immigrants or immigrants themselves. At the after-school program, Masa staff ensure children’s cultures and histories are celebrated, and support students in growing academically so they are prepared to be thoughtful, critically conscious leaders.

This is an ideal position for someone who is fully bilingual in English and Spanish, interested in education and non-profit management, and deeply committed to Masa’s strengths-based approach and mission of developing strong learners and leaders within the South Bronx’s Mexican community.


Program operations and data management

  • Maintain and monitor program inventory
  • Implement and follow Masa’s policies and procedures with respect to client confidentiality and safety
  • Provide occasional/as-needed support with program recruitment or enrollment, particularly training new staff


Program development and supervision

  • Develop culturally responsive curriculum and lesson plans for Masa’s literacy, social justice, and cultural programs and support implementation of these lessons, including preparing materials and supporting volunteers
  • Support day-to-day operations of programs, including, but not limited to, setting up facilities, monitoring attendance, supporting volunteers in working with students, and communicating and reinforcing program rules and routines
  • Keep the Program Coordinator informed of any emergent matters regarding the care and safety of children
  • Support planning and implementation of volunteer trainings
  • Provide guidance to volunteers and models desired behaviors
  • Support the planning and execution of special events on an as-needed basis



Education and Skills/Interests

  • MUST be available Monday-Thursday 4-8:15 PM; other hours can be agreed upon with supervisor
  • Fluent in English AND Spanish
  • Understanding of developmentally appropriate practice in K-8 education
  • Strong interest in and commitment to social justice education grounded in a culturally responsive approach, including cultivating self-love and self-respect through a cultural lens
  • Experience with and/or interest in curriculum development strongly preferred
  • Tech-savvy; proficient in use of data collection system; able to quickly learn software/data systems
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, and time management skills required
  • Able to perform work efficiently and accurately with minimal supervision
  • SalesForce experience a plus


  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience in working with K-8 students
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience in working with immigrant communities


Other Requirements

  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations 
  • Ability to be flexible in assignment and work hours, including weekend hours and participating in community vents as needed
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain 
  • Willingness to be fingerprinted and complete a background check
