Horton’s Kids is a community-based organization working to drive positive change in the lives of 500 children in grades K – 12 living in two of the most under-resourced communities in southeast Washington, DC - Wellington Park and Stanton Oaks. These communities are home to children and families with big dreams and the potential needed to achieve them. However, decades of disinvestment and systemic racism have created unfair barriers to access for these families. Volunteer and Partnership Coordinator Overview:

From one-time projects to weekly tutoring, volunteers support Horton’s Kids’ mission and increase the organization’s impact. Therefore, the Volunteer and Partnership Coordinator plays an essential role in recruiting, screening, and managing volunteers to ensure a high level of satisfaction for volunteers and staff – and a high level of impact for children. This position requires maturity, creativity, organization, and stellar customer service. The Volunteer and Partnership Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives and Engagement and regularly works with all staff members to understand all program needs and logistics.

All candidates must be vaccinated and will be asked to submit proof of vaccine.

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment & Planning for Partnership and Volunteer Needs

·       Work with Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, Program, Operations, and Development staff to assess and fulfill partner and volunteer needs

·       Develop strategies to align the demographics of the volunteer population with Horton’s Kids’ values, culture, and strategic priorities

·       Work with Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives and Development team to engage partners and volunteers in Horton’s Kids as donors and advocates

·       Achieve and report measurable progress towards Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for volunteer applications.

·       Provide tours to existing Corporate Partners as needed.

·       Ensure SharePoint and task management tools for both partners and volunteers are maintained and orderly

·       Draft communications and coordinate follow-ups with prospective and partners and volunteers on behalf of the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives.

 Recruitment

·       Manage the intake process for new volunteers and partners:

-respond to new inquiries, track, and screen applications.

·       Organize volunteers for school year/ongoing programmatic needs, including tutoring, enrichment, older youth programs, and mentoring.

·       Research new corporate and large group volunteer partnerships that can be recruitment sources for new volunteers and create visibility for the organization in DC, with a focus on Ward 8 businesses and organizations.

·       Prioritize the recruitment of volunteers from diverse backgrounds (BIPOC, male, various educational and professional experiences).

·       Coordinate with Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives and Development to recruit and manage volunteers for special fundraising events.

Training

·       Lead Horton’s Kids orientations for new volunteers and partners as per their request

·       Collaborate with program team staff to provide appropriate and regular training for volunteers that are specific to their role.

Management

·       Ensure all volunteers are current with paperwork, background checks, and other requirements

·       Communicate updates to volunteers via weekly emails

·       Recognize volunteers and partners through thank you notes, monthly awards, communicating accomplishments, and occasional celebrations

·       Monitor engagement and develop strategies to encourage long-term commitments

·       Ensure volunteers and partners have a successful and rewarding experience through testimonies, focus groups, annual surveys, workshops, and exit surveys

·       Maintain Salesforce CRM database of over 500 volunteers and use this system to track metrics

·       Partner with Development staff to provide volunteer opportunities as stewardship touchpoints for key corporate donors.

Essential Experience and Competencies

·       Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university

·       At least 2 years of professional experience, volunteer management is preferred

·       Experience with using and maintaining a CRM database (previous experience with Salesforce preferred)

·       Customer service experience working with diverse constituencies.

·       Outstanding writing and editing skills

·       Experience with public speaking

·       Strong interpersonal communication skills

·       High attention to detail

·       Ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously

·       Capacity to take initiative and lead projects from beginning to end

·       Ability to work across several teams in a fast-paced environment

·       Passion for social justice and children

·       Sensitivity and respect for the issues facing urban children and families

·       Commitment to advancing Diversity Equity and Inclusion priorities
