Rethink Priorities is a research organization aimed at uncovering insights to inform policymakers and major foundations about how to best set policy to help people and nonhuman animals.

We're currently seeking two researchers to conduct analyses and cost-effectiveness estimates of interventions aimed at improving the lives of humans throughout the world, focusing on reducing global poverty, improving global health, mental health, and increasing global economic development. 

This position is open to full-time or part-time candidates (at least 20 hours per week). The salary is between $63,000 to $86,000 annually, depending on experience, prorated for part-time work. This position is remote, and is open to candidates in most places in the world. We offer comprehensive benefits including comprehensive health coverage, generous parental leave, and unlimited time off.

We are hoping for the ideal candidate to be able to start this position no later than 1 October 2021.

What you'll do

  • Conduct research on pressing issues aimed at improving the lives of humans throughout the world, focusing on reducing global poverty, improving global health, and increasing global economic development. Some specific topics you might look into include tobacco policy, cognitive behavioral therapy interventions, migration policy, pandemic preparedness in low- and middle-income countries, geoengineering and climate change, science policy, intellectual property law reform, and more.
  • Create concrete recommendations to advise the allocation of tens of millions of dollars a year among our interested audience of  grantmakers, policymakers, and organization leaders on the best ways to effectively distribute funding to save lives and improve welfare.

 

Skills and experience you have

  • Masters or PhD in economics, medicine, law or public policy, environmental science, education, engineering, statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience studying or familiarity with charitable efforts to save lives, improve health, and/or foster increased economic development in developing countries
  • Experience developing quantitative models and conducting formal cost-effectiveness modeling
  • Comfort reaching out to experts in a variety of fields and working to reach relevant experts to provide feedback on your work
  • Comfort with quickly learning how to apply research outside your field of knowledge
  • Able to find, read, and critically apply academic research from a variety of disciplines
  • Comfort with independent, remote work (we're a 100% remote team across five different countries)
  • Able to start by 1 October 2021
