Are you interested in education, social services, and community service? Want to have an impact on your nation and in your community?
The AmeriCorps program impacts more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at 21,600 unique sites including nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 1 million AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.4 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing more than 2.3 million volunteers for the organizations they serve.
The Montclair State University EECO AmeriCorps program is seeking Reading Coaches to successfully support literacy skills in Community Schools. The Reading Coaches primarily will each be assigned two classrooms, kindergarten or 1st grade students; one classroom for the morning block and one classroom for the afternoon block. While in the classroom, reading coaches will work with students with rotating groups of students at the independent reading station. At this station, reading coaches will work with students individually to read to the students and assist the students in reading aloud and independent reading assignments.
Reading Coaches will also create incentive charts for students to improve their reading level, work with the students to achieve their goals for reading, and provide feedback to each student in their reader logs. In addition, Reading Coaches will cultivate a positive community school culture by building positive relationships with students that promote academic engagement within the school/classroom and help create a welcoming and safe environment, which research has shown to improve academic engagement and success.
Seeking college graduates or soon to be graduates in the fields of education, social services, and community engagement. Training and support are provided as you will serve with an AmeriCorps team.
