The Role

This position is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make an incredible impact on financially vulnerable older adults! SBSS is launching a new project to empower adults 50 years and older with the financial and technological skills and tools needed to thrive in the 21st century, helping to prevent financial crises/abuse before they happen and build participants’ self-sufficiency to expand their economic opportunity, bridge the digital divide and provide access to resources and financial tools online.

Project success will require an energetic, experienced, and results-driven professional with great organizational skills to drive the project forward from planning stage to ongoing success and evaluation. SBSS will provide the tools, financial resources, and executive-level support from the Executive Leadership Team, as well as a small team of volunteers who will be recruited to work under the supervision of the SBSS Project Director.

This is not your average “tech” job. We need a person who has an entrepreneurial spirit, works collaboratively with a team, and utilizes creativity and sound judgment to oversee and direct all aspects of the initiative. In collaboration with SBSS leadership, the Project Director will lead the following:

 

Program Planning and Execution

Work with SBSS leadership to develop and implement an overall project plan for the SBSS Tech + Financial Empowerment Project. Recruit, hire, and manage volunteers to help staff; contribute to and manage detailed plans (budgets, timelines, reporting, etc.); and develop a culturally and linguistically appropriate curriculum. Serve as the project leader and oversee program delivery, and manage a regional strategy required for successful phased rollout the various project components; Lead outreach and training events and coordinate regional events as needed; Implement a needs assessment survey and oversee the results analysis; Ensure program outcomes are achieved and report key program metrics and other results on a regular basis.

Program Development

Build a growing base of engaged project participants through the successful operation of the project and continuously seek client input to improve the project. Regularly collaborate with SBSS leadership on professional development, new best practices, and overall management of the SBSS Tech + Financial Empowerment Project.

External Relations

Establish and maintain relationships with external partners throughout Los Angeles, including community-based nonprofits, local, regional, and statewide aging organizations, various corporations and philanthropic funders, faith-based organizations, government officials, and media representatives. Promote the project to media outlets, elected officials, corporations and other potential funders, and seek and secure financial commitments to sustain and expand the project over time.

This position will be based in Los Angeles, with frequent travel throughout L.A. region and other areas as required. (Car required. Travel costs, including accommodation, will be paid for or reimbursed by SBSS.)

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will exhibit the following characteristics:

4-year Bachelors’ Degree required. Masters’ or higher Degree preferred.

Experience working with a diverse group of stakeholders, building consensus and cultivating strong working relationships, and ability to focus on attaining desired outcomes in a well- informed, mature and diplomatic manner. Previous experience working in Los Angeles and the surrounding communities a plus.

Strong organizational skills, including ability to plan for, implement, track, and evaluate programs.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Proven experience managing a complex workload in a fast-paced, results-driven, entrepreneurial environment.

Managing and leading people, cultivating entrepreneurship, and learning the strengths and weaknesses of a team so as to put people in a position to succeed.

Experience using Google apps, Microsoft Office and other project management tools.

A deep appreciation for the stated interests, goals, and potential of older adults in Los Angeles County. Professional experience in the aging field is a plus, but not required.

An affinity for mainstream financial management tools (i.e., Mint) and consumer technology (PCs, tablets, smartphones, video gaming consoles, etc.) and the ability to learn new technologies quickly and troubleshoot common tech issues as necessary.

The ability to work full-time with a flexible schedule including some weekend and evening work and periods of multi-day travel required.

Availability to commence full-time work as soon as possible.
