Legislative Manager

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization committed to educating the public on issues with significant fiscal policy impact. Our bipartisan leadership comprises some of the nation's leading budget experts, including many past heads of the House and Senate Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, the Government Accountability Office, and the Federal Reserve Board.

The Legislative Manager will contribute to the organization’s ongoing legislative efforts in the areas of federal budget, tax, health, Social Security, and economic policy. The Manager needs to be strategic, fast moving, flexible, hardworking, extremely organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively. Ideally, they will have experience both working on Capitol Hill and with building coalitions on Capitol Hill through outside groups. They must believe in the mission of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and appreciate a bipartisan approach to policymaking.

Primary Responsibilities

• Helping to build working groups on Capitol Hill committed to issues related to fiscal responsibility
• Coordinating legislative and outside engagement activities in support of legislative goals
• Maintaining working relationships with key Congressional offices and their staff
• Tracking relevant legislative developments, Capitol Hill activities, and positions of Members
• Developing materials for Capitol Hill audiences such as one-pagers and talking points
• Developing ways to increase presence on Capitol Hill by seeking out opportunities to offer constructive policy solutions to key fiscal issues
• Assisting in event planning

Organizational Responsibilities

• Working with the full senior team to develop and implement strategy
• Professionally representing the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and its core values before different audiences
• Traveling as necessary for events, meetings, etc.
• Communicating priorities to the rest of the staff to help with efficient workflow
• Pitching in on a variety of projects as necessary

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

• At least 3 years of Capitol Hill related experience
• Experience working with and building coalitions
• Knowledge of key economic policy, federal budget, tax, and entitlement issues before Congress
• Proven ability to work in fast-paced ever-changing environments both independently and as part of a team
• Able to self-direct

This position is full-time and based in Washington, D.C. and offers a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.
