The disAbility Law Center of Virginia is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Communications and Outreach Coordinator to support the agency’s outreach, trainings and event planning efforts. The disAbility Law Center of Virginia is the state’s designated protection and advocacy system.  Our mission is to protect and advance legal, human, and civil rights of persons with disabilities; combat and prevent abuse, neglect, and discrimination; and promote independence, choice, and self-determination by persons with disabilities. Duties for this position will include managing our social networking presence across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, working with management to create and implement a long range communications plan and coordinate branding and consistency of publications. The Coordinator will work with staff, volunteers, and board members to plan and execute two or more major annual events for dLCV, and will provide support to virtual and in-person outreach and training efforts.


Key Responsibilities:

·        Coordinate and develop dLCV’s brand and communication strategy to support dLCV’s mission and vision, including creating yearly communications plans.

·        Optimize communication platforms to increase programmatic and fundraising engagement to support our mission and organizational goals.

·        Develop on-target branded content that increases brand recognition and engagement.

·        Assist in the development and implementation of major event plans.

·        Represent dLCV at occasional events and media opportunities.

·        Coordinate with the media and other partners to promote dLCV’s mission, initiatives, programs, and news.


 

The ideal candidate will possess

·        A Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, or in another field that has provided the candidate relevant training and expertise for this position

·        Demonstrated experience or recent training with CRM databases (such as Donor Perfect and SalsaLabs), virtual meeting and webinar technology (such as Zoom, WebEx, GotoMeeting), WordPress, and Social Media

·        Experience using graphic design software such as Canva, or Adobe PhotoShop (preferred, but not required)

·        Experience with event planning (virtual, in-person, and hybrid), strongly preferred but not required

·        Strong organizational and time management skills

·        Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing deadlines

·        Strong background in Microsoft Office and associated products

·        Working knowledge of standard computer hardware and other office equipment

·        Strong written and oral communication skills

·        Problem-solving skills


Familiarity with Virginia’s disability services system is preferred but not required.

 

The qualified candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated sensitivity for people with disabilities and respect for cultural differences; willingness to promote and advocate for independence, informed choice, and self-determination for people with disabilities; and a demonstrated commitment to social justice. The candidate should be able to manage time and duties professionally and responsibly; and be a team-player.
