We’re looking for a:  Controller!

 

What will you do? You will ensure that the finance and accounting functions of our non-profit agency are accomplished effectively and on a timely basis including providing clear direction and guidelines, requiring the use of initiative and independent judgment when applying working knowledge of accounting and financial reporting.

 

What do we need from our applicants? A passion for the JVS mission, and:

  • Effective and persuasive written and verbal communication skills; capacity to clearly and concisely articulate complex financial and accounting concepts; strong meeting facilitation skills
  • Ability to create financial statements from scratch using Excel; Ability to customize and build Excel workbooks to meet changing criteria and reporting needs
  • Advanced Excel proficiency  including look-ups, sumifs, tables, date functions and layered strings of formulas
  • Excellent project management skills combined with proficiency in building, directing, and motivating collaborative cross-functional teams; Advanced problem identification and resolution skills
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and city funding and reporting regulations and guidelines

·        Demonstrated ability to supervise, recruit, and train staff; proficiency in building, directing, and motivating collaborative cross-functional teams;

  • Previous  management experience in a complex non-profit organization with a combination of government, foundation, and fee-for-service funding streams
  • 3 years’ experience with application Uniform Guidance principles
  • 3 years’ experience in financial statement compilation or review
  • Proven expertise in GAAP and internal controls as well as in the development and implementation of new systems and internal controls
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance

It would also be great if you have:

  • Knowledge of MIP Abila or similar accounting software packages
  • Knowledge of Payroll applications

Compensation: Starts at $102,000 per year; there is a broad range depending on experience.
