Position Summary:

The Membership Outreach Manager works with the Human Rights Campaign’s steering committee volunteers and Board members to achieve their annual membership recruitment and event-based fundraising goals, and to grow and execute our online giving programs. 

 

Position Responsibilities:

The Membership Outreach Manager is responsible for the following:

  • Manage a portfolio of 6-10 HRC volunteer steering committees, guiding their annual work plans of community events and Pride activity, in order to achieve membership and fundraising goals.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with volunteers and Board members in assigned portfolio providing on-going coaching, training and conflict management as necessary.
  • Actively participate as part of the Pride team, bringing ideas for increased membership recruitment, marketing and branding, and program operations.
  • Create, monitor and regularly report on community event budgets in assigned portfolio.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of online giving programs, including HRC’s Wedding Registry, Gift Membership, and Memorial Gifts and Flag initiatives.
  • Write and deliver trainings and related materials to meet volunteer needs in all program-related areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with two to four years of experience in volunteer, event and budget management.
  • Good writing skills, excellent verbal communication skills, and proficiency in full Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps (Gmail, Google Docs and Drive). 
  • Excellent relationship-building and customer service skills.
  • Results-oriented and creative.
  • A track record of managing relationships with volunteers or staff and effectively coaching them to meet their goals.
  • Experience effectively managing volunteers of diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting members or equivalent sales experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and ability to oversee a cadre of volunteers and program participants.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Must be willing and able to travel to represent HRC at community events and pride festivals ten to twelve times per year, frequently on weekends.
  • Flexibility with work schedule; this position requires evening and weekend work.
  • Interest in and commitment to LGBTQ equality. 

 

All positions at the Human Rights Campaign may require travel on a regular basis or periodically. Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
