The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) is an international consortium of university, college, and independent research libraries collectively building, stewarding, and sharing a wealth of resource materials from all world regions to support inspired research and teaching. CRL's deep and diverse collections are shaped by specialists at major U.S. and Canadian research universities, who work together to identify and preserve collections and content, to ensure its long-term integrity and accessibility to researchers worldwide.

The successful candidate for this position possesses creativity and the skill to develop original content as appropriate for different academic audiences that provokes engagement in addition to demonstrating strong leadership qualities, drive, and the ability to execute initiatives end-to-end. This position’s primary responsibility is coordinating the editorial consistency and production workflow for all materials used in communicating the value of CRL's resources and services to decision makers at member and peer institutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support content and communications for our Drupal sites, coordinating with staff to produce text and media content for multiple sites.
  • Regularly audit website content for current, accurate information and style.
  • Support updating landing pages, forms, and other assets using basic HTML skills.
  • Coordinates selection of topics, writes and edits newsletter content and coordinates newsletter production.
  • Develops website content and edits content created by others; this includesnews,events, featurestories, and other page content.
  • Monitors website workflow pipeline.
  • Supports editing and production of reports, flyers and brochures; develop a toolkit of best practices for featuring CRL content and services at local institutions; assist in developing display materials for presentation at specialized conferences.
  • Develop and implement a social media plan; identify potential messages and posts. Track appropriate metrics.
  • Oversee analysis of impact of communications output by tracking various metrics, including webinar participation and website visits.
  • Works with reporting staff (Collections and Impact Assessment Analyst) to identify appropriate collections contacts and ensure accurate and timely updates to CRL’s Contact Information System (CIS), Salesforce. 
  • Prepares and project manages annual statistical report of CRL for CRL’s Annual Report, working to additionally support CRL’s Annual Meeting.
  • Provide support for CRL hosted events, including virtual events (Zoom).
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including ability to create audience appropriate text and write to message, fully utilizing the communications operating mission.
  • Ability to write reports, user guides, and articles in line with organizational needs which includes writing for an academic audience.
  • Ability to analyze project time-frames and dependencies, conceptualize solutions, and manage workflow.
  • Ability function as a project manager, planning and coordinating work across multiple internal task groups and organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan own work and coordinate the work of others to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team and support team initiatives.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Position requires a bachelor’s degree with a course work concentration that emphasizes the development of strong critical thinking, written and verbal communications. Preferred experience includes coordinating publishing production for organizations or agencies with a demonstrated impact in line with organizational goals; writing and editing for organizations, with an emphasis on content for an academic audience. Prior experience using social media as a promotional communication tool is required.

Applicants with an MLS/MLIS are encouraged to apply; MLS/MLIS will be considered in place of communications/content coordination experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • None

COMPUTER/TECHNICAL

  • Proficiency in a Microsoft Windows based network and use of the Microsoft Office 365 Suite is required.
  • Knowledge and use of social media platforms as a promotional and communications tool is required.
  • Knowledge and prior use of web authoring software; web content management systems. Candidates with prior Drupal content management experience will be given preference.
  • Knowledge and use of Adobe Creative Cloud applications as follows:
  • InDesign – intermediate, advanced preferred
  • Illustrator – beginner
  • Photoshop – beginner

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moderate noise levels, within the general office setting. 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

The employee is not expected to travel.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time, on-site position (M-F, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) with a starting minimum salary of $53,000/year plus benefits. CRL offers competitive benefits including health, dental, and disability insurance, sick and vacation time.
