located in Venice, CA, near Venice High School.

Job Summary:

The Development Manager is an important member of our Bread Head team and will report to the

Executive Director. The Development Manager is responsible for managing the daily fundraising

operations within the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

Donor Relations Management

● Perform prospect research, acquisition, and analysis.

● Collaborate on a portfolio of major gift prospects (defined as those giving a gift of $1,000+),

as well as those donors and prospects that have the capacity to give at the majors level or

higher.

● Assist in scheduling meetings with prospective funders and donors.

● Cultivate individual donors through phone follow-ups and in-person conversations and

acknowledgment letters.

● Manage a donor database; process donations and enter fundraising data.

● Ensure proper donor recognition in all publications & oversee accurate donor lists for those

publications.

Campaigns

● In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop solicitation strategies in support of the

organization's annual fund, planned giving, and growth campaigns; ensure strategies are

compatible & maximize opportunities with other existing campaigns & appeals.

● Manage the creation & production of all campaign materials, including letters, emails, and

prospectuses.

Appeals

● Provide analysis & recommendations based on reporting.

● Provide detailed prospect reports for solicitors.

● Project manage appeals ensuring deadlines and fundraising goals are met.

Events

● Collaborate in the coordination & planning of fundraising events.

● Assist with the creation and finalization of guest lists.

● Maintain regular contact with donors during fundraising events.

● Work with the Program Manager to manage volunteers at events.

Additional Functions

● Work with the Executive Director to set priorities; manage and adjust the work plan and

calendar as needed.

● Work with the Executive Director to manage revenue projection, as well as pledges & pledge

fulfillments.

● Research & apply for grant opportunities.

● Maintain up to date knowledge of major programmatic initiatives.

● Perform basic administrative duties such as filing, data entry, maintaining a filing system and

more.

● Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as with

external partners and collaborators.

● Flexibility to meet organization’s needs.

● Strong organizational tendencies.

● Works well independently and in teams.

● Ability to multitask and manage deadlines.

● Must be available to work an occasional evening or on weekends

● Maintain appropriate boundaries with program participants and preserve confidentiality.

● Ability to accept and demonstrate respect for cultural diversity in all its forms and exhibit

comfort working in culturally diverse environments, while promoting equity and inclusion.

● Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Keynote and Outlook and cloud-based systems.

Education, Experience and Language:

● Minimum of 5 years' experience in nonprofit development (see duties and responsibilities above)

● Knowledge of issues of food literacy, food insecurity & food justice (preferred)

● Knowledge of issues of housing insecurity

● Bachelor's Degree (Required)

● English (Required)

● Spanish (Preferred)
