Part-Time Ethnographic Data Analyst

OASIS—Organizing to Advance Solutions in the Sahel—works to create a healthy and resilient Sahel where women and girls are educated and free to make critical life choices. We focus on three strategic priorities critical to this goal: 1) developing, strengthening and scaling-up evidence-based programs that complement education and health systems; 2) conducting ethnographic, formative and operations research to inform education and reproductive health policy and practice; 3) building local leadership and advocacy capacity to support an enabling environment for women and girls to thrive.

OASIS is seeking an ethnographic data analyst to assist with its health and educational research and evaluations.

Responsibilities

The Ethnographic Data Analyst, under the mentorship of the research supervisor, will be responsible for:

• Research and write literature reviews for reports, publications, and grant proposals
• Review interview transcripts, fieldnotes, and other data sources to ensure quality and completeness of the fieldworkers' submissions

·       Code the interview transcripts, fieldnotes, and other data sources to identify preliminary themes and insights to be tested against data from new interviews and fieldnotes

• Write and revise research memos summarizing themes and insights
• Participate in regular analysis meetings as part of the ongoing and iterative understanding of the data and revision of research questions 

Required Qualifications

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Degree or studies in a field requiring such critical and analytical skills
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Self-motivated, independent, and able to figure out what needs to be done and do it
• Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills 
• Proven ability to meet agreed deadlines
• Ability to think creatively and outside the box

Desirable Qualifications

• Working proficiency in French, as it relates to activities above
• Prior experience coding qualitative data and writing research memos
• Experience working in developing countries, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa
• Experience with ATLAS/Ti or other qualitative analysis software
• Degree or studies in anthropology, sociology or other social science disciplines

Duration

Work will be as needed throughout 2021, with an estimated time commitment of 8 hours per week.

Payment

Rate will be determined according to qualifications and experience.
