Film Forum, a 51-year old nonprofit cinema in lower Manhattan, acclaimed for its exhibition of independent premieres and repertory programming, seeks a creative and dynamic Director of Development to join its executive team. This position is responsible for the strategic planning and leadership of a small development department and all of its fundraising efforts including: individual giving, institutional giving, corporate giving, public funding and events.


The Director of Development reports to the Director, works closely with the Deputy Director and General Manager, and oversees a team of two staff members: Individual Giving Associate and a Part-time Development Assistant. There is also strong administrative support for development by all members of the staff.


Film Forum’s annual operating budget is $6 million. The development department is responsible for raising approximately $2.2 million in annual revenue.

 

Responsibilities:

·        Serve as chief fundraising officer for Film Forum, planning and executing all development strategy and operations

·        Develop creative, forward-thinking fundraising strategies to expand base of contributed support

·        Cultivate and solicit new donor prospects

·        Oversee stewardship activities including email communications, and meetings with donor prospects

·        Analyze data--from past fundraising efforts and from the organization’s constituent management system (Tessitura)--to evaluate and strategize all fundraising efforts

·        Direct and oversee planning and execution of annual fundraising campaigns

·        Write grant proposals and funder reports with development staff

·        Manage event planning and execution

·        Participate in board development efforts, including the identification and research of viable, diverse board candidates

·        Coordinate and participate in the organization’s advisory committee

·        Manage and mentor two early-career development professionals.


Qualifications & Skills:

·        A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a development office in a management or leadership role

·        Proven track record in growing an organization’s unearned income

·        An organized, detail-oriented self-starter who is an innovative thinker

·        Be able to work on multiple deadline-driven projects in a fast-paced office

·        Collaborative, open to feedback, strong interpersonal skills

·        Strong written communication skills essential 

·        Proficiency with MS Office required; knowledge of Tessitura preferred

·        A background in the arts a plus
