UPchieve is an ed-tech nonprofit that is working to democratize access to academic support. We provide free, online tutoring and college counseling to low-income HS students across the US. (You can learn more about our mission here.) We’re also growing fast: last year we 100x’ed the number of weekly sessions happening on our platform (from 10/week to over 1,000/week)!

About this role

UPchieve is looking for a Director of Programs to join our senior leadership team and oversee both our programs and the direction of our product. As an edtech nonprofit, we often operate in the grey area between a traditional nonprofit program and a pure edtech product. That’s why, in this role, your singular focus will be to maximize our impact on the students we serve. You’ll set the strategy for everything related to our impact on students: whether that be optimizing our volunteer training, expanding our product’s features and data collection, or engaging stakeholders like students’ teachers and schools.

• You’re super excited by the idea of working at an early stage edtech nonprofit (one of only two edtech nonprofits to have ever been backed by Y Combinator!)
• You believe that all nonprofits should be rigorous in measuring their impact and using data to iteratively improve their programs
• You want to have ownership of anything and everything related to UPchieve’s programming for students, volunteers, and student enrollment partners
• You’re up for the challenge of designing nonprofit programs that rely on a tech product, and, in turn, using your understanding of our users to inform the product’s design

What you’ll do

• Oversee multiple interrelated programs, including our volunteer operations and training, our school and nonprofit partnerships, and our student leadership and webinar opportunities. 
• Determine metrics to track, questions to ask, identify opportunities based on data, and build a plan to execute.
• Work closely with the product/engineering team to design and implement changes to our platform that drive impact on student outcomes and improvements in student/volunteer satisfaction
• Gather compelling testimonials and data to help tell UPchieve’s impact story to funders
• Secure and manage large scale partnerships with other national nonprofits and school networks
• (Over 1-2 years) Hire for and lead a small programs team

We’re looking for someone who...

• Has 4+ years experience managing nonprofit programs (or related experience, such as product management or business operations/development)
• Is highly organized and capable of managing multiple complex projects at once
• Feels comfortable using data to measure the success of UPchieve’s programs
• Is a persuasive speaker and presenter, capable of securing new partnerships
• (Bonus) Prior experience with impact measurement 
• (Bonus) Prior experience working with teachers and/or partnering with schools

You’ll be joining a diverse group of people passionate about using technology for social justice. “Diverse” isn’t a buzz-word for us—it’s a core value. We are female-founded, and two-thirds of our team are people of color. We’re also a remote-first organization (in non-COVID times, you can optionally work from a dog-friendly office in Brooklyn, NY). Finally, we believe working full-time should mean working 40 hours per week; non-work stuff is important too!
