Association to Benefit Children (ABC) is dedicated to bringing joy and warmth to disadvantaged children and their families through compassionate, sustainable, comprehensive and integrated services, designed to permanently break the cycles of abuse, neglect, sickness and homelessness.
ABC's humane and innovative programs include early childhood education, health care services, housing assistance, mental health services, family preservation, crisis intervention, recreational services, job training and employment assistance, therapeutic after school and summer day camp programs, mentoring and legal advocacy.
ABC’s Children Mobile Crisis Services Team (CMCT) is an innovative program which provides short-term crisis response, assessment, and coordination of care to children and adolescents aged 0-17 residing and/or attending school in Upper Manhattan. The team, which includes both mental health professionals and family advocates, diffuses behavioral and mental health crisis situations and helps link children/adolescents and their families to community services, often as an alternative to emergency room use and hospitalization. Referrals are received through 1-888-NYC-WELL. Referrals will focus on children and adolescents who are unwilling or unable to be connected to outpatient treatment, or who need in-home services until they are connected. Staff will respond to referrals within two hours of referral.
The mental health professional on the team (LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT) will provide a variety of services, including in-home mental health crisis assessments, de-escalation of crisis situations, transport to hospital, and coordination of care/linkage to longer-term services. They will be accompanied on visits by a family advocate. Crisis clinicians will enjoy a friendly, supportive, and flexible work environment. Excellent clinical training opportunities, generous benefit package. EOE. Supervision under LCSW. The ideal candidate would have experience doing crisis/ER work, be a team player, and be comfortable managing stressful situations and using more directive family interventions when necessary.
