The Lead Seeds of Resistance Organizer, alongside more junior Seeds of Resistance Organizers, engages voters on campaign messaging per a legally-vetted script and carries out related follow up outreach activities by going door to door, making phone calls and/or texting, working under the supervision of the Civic Engagement Coordinator. The person in this role should be strongly motivated to do community organizing work, highly skilled with conversing enthusiastically over the phone and by text to contact and mobilize voters, and able to support their supervisor and provide leadership to other organizers. Training and scripts are provided. This position is central to our sibling 501(c)(4) nonprofit

PowerCA Action’s Seeds of Resistance campaign to mass mobilize young voters of color via volunteer

recruitment, community organizing, and community voter events.


Campaign Coordination

  • Copies and distributes campaign and logistical materials, as assigned
  • Coordinates the set-up and clean-up for door-to-door canvassing sessions of several part-time canvassers
  • Carries out assigned administrative work required to run the daily canvassing sessions, including, but not limited to, verifying data via the PDI voter database service, daily tallies of voter contacts, and daily reporting of contact statistics
  • Supports the evaluation of daily canvass session, working closely with this position’s supervisor and other staff, as needed

Voter Outreach

  • Participates in 3-day training sessions to learn skills on effectively organizing the community to take action on local issues, prior to the start of the voter outreach program and once per week during
  • Performs door-to-door canvassing, and web-based phone- and text-banking to contact voters
  • Works regular 4- to 6-hour sessions plus 1 hour for extra setup and cleanup tasks, usually 4 days a week, adhering to legally-vetted script, as scheduled by supervisor
  • Maintains professional and engaging conversations with voters and peers
  • Reports voter data contact on a daily basis to lead staff, entering voter contact data and pledge forms in spreadsheet

Volunteer Recruitment

  • Helps recruit and train student leaders by conducting lunchtime outreach, and classroom presentations at high schools, community college campuses, university campuses and community events
  • Participates in the planning and coordinating of civic engagement trainings and student-led voter outreach activities on school campuses, in conjunction with educators and school staff
  • Conducts volunteer recruitment through canvassing, phone banking, texting, and/or classroom presentations
  • Carries out professional and engaging conversations with voters and peers
  • Enters voter contact data and pledge forms
  • Supports administrative pieces of field campaign work, such as making photocopies, as assigned

Youth Leadership Development

  • Assists supervisor with orientations of young people to electoral organizing work
  • Helps design and implement our leadership development program for student leaders


  • Documents student-led activities and narratives for our social media channels, as directed by communications staff, as assigned
  • Carries out administrative tasks, as assigned
  • Provides support at organizational events, as needed
  • Works in good faith to support the overall stability and effectiveness of the organization
  • Submits any and all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
  • Additional duties as assigned


  • One year of experience with voter engagement campaigns or customer service preferred
  • Passion for and commitment to working with young people of color, low-income immigrants, and refugees, especially from an intersectional perspective, including LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Familiarity with grassroots organizing, advocacy and electoral engagement techniques a plus
  • Able to communicate in an outgoing, enthusiastic and persuasive manner
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Must be computer-literate, with basic skills in word processing, spreadsheets, web/email applications, and other work-related applications
  • Flexible, team-oriented approach to problem-solving
  • Bilingual or multilingual, with English-Spanish skills a plus
  • Must be able to work flexible hours; some evenings and weekends required
  • Must have a working cell phone with a data plan and a working home Internet connection with adequate speed
  • If assigned to drive for business, must have unlimited access to a reliable automobile and have the ability to drive; valid California driver’s license and, if driving own car, proof of adequate insurance coverage required
  • Based in or near Merced or Fresno, California (within 25 miles)
  • Because of the job duties of this position, a criminal background check will be required as a
  • condition of an employment offer

  • Carries 15 pounds of supplies about once a day over medium distances (20–30 feet)
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
