Under the supervision of the Vice President, Public Health Division, and member of AAC Executive Team, the Director provides strategic direction and management oversight to the Drug User Health Program of Fenway Health. Key responsibilities include the implementation of integrated community based and clinic based services for people who inject drugs, with a focus on prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, navigation support and linkage to clinical care, behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, and other supportive services. The Director will lead the development of a mobile outreach strategy utilizing a van, and incorporating clinical services within two drop in centers located in the community (Boston and Cambridge). The Director represents Fenway Health in various coalitions, interfaces with the media, and works closely with Fenway Health’s VP of Government Relations and Community Affairs.

Job Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in Public Health or related field, and/or clinical degree required
  • At least 5 years’ experience in public health/health care/human services required, including at least three (3) years with responsibility for program development, program management, and staff supervision.
  • Strong project planning, leadership, negotiation and presentation skills as well as an ability to contribute creative yet practical solutions to problems
  • Strong knowledge of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C trends, needle exchange programing, harm reduction, and at-risk populations. Commitment and experience to delivering low-threshold, easily accessible service.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several projects in parallel, paying attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within a team-based environment
  • Ability to forge cross-functional working relationships with internal teams and external project partners
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience managing variety of grants and contracts, and overseeing budgets strongly preferred
  • Experience working in an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environments preferred
  • Experience with health promotion/prevention, communities of color, the LGBT+ community, HIV/AIDS and substance use issues strongly preferred.
