The Opportunity.

The Camp Educator is a seasonal role with a rate of pay of $12.75-$13.50 per hour depending on experience. The typical schedule for the full time Camp Educator is a 40-hour work week, 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday (8:30am-12:30pm if part-time) for the season, June 22 – August 28. Additionally, a week of training (4-5 hours per day) the week prior, June 15-June 19 is required. The Camp Educator is primarily responsible for the daily execution of the camp programs and activities and the supervision of campers aged 4-17 years old, depending on the assigned age range. Camp educators contribute collaboratively to the development of camp activities and are given creative freedom to direct the experience of campers in their group.

 

In This Role You Will.

  • Daily execution of programs designed to encourage campers to investigate the Crane Estate’s unique identity from the standpoint of place – with a focus on environmental education and experiential learning.
  • Direct supervision, group management, and safe keeping of campers.
  • Activity/Curriculum design – collaboratively creating and planning a thoughtful schedule of educational and fun activities reflective of the weekly theme.
  • Management of photo and video content.
  • Active participation in program development and camp evaluation meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.

About The…

Level of Language Proficiency

Education and Experience:

  • Working towards a degree in education, science, humanities, or other relevant course of study (Bachelor's Degree in education or science field preferred)
  • Experience working as a camp counselor, classroom teacher, or informal educator with children ages 4-15 (Experience in environmental education preferred).
  • A special interest in place-based education, especially in a coastal environment.
  • The physical and mental wherewithal to teach outdoors, sometimes under difficult circumstances.
  • The ability and desire to work with children from under served communities.
  • A familiarity with the Crane Estate and The Trustees of Reservations
  • Must be outgoing, have a willingness to learn and bring unbridled joy and enthusiasm to work every day.

 

Position Requirements:                                         

  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Reliable transportation
  • Fully available for camp staff training and all 10 weeks of camp (June 15-August 28)
  • A satisfactory criminal background check (CORI and SORI)
  • Ability to work outside in variable weather conditions with children
  • At least 18 years old

 

Certifications:

The following certifications are desired, but not required:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or equivalent
  • American Red Cross CPR Certificate for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent
  • American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate or equivalent
