    Description

Our energy system is on the brink of a major transformation, and we’re looking for someone to help us ensure this new system puts rooftop solar energy at the cornerstone!

    About Us

Solar United Neighbors (SUN) is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit that started more than 15 years ago with a simple question: "Mom, can we go solar?" Since then, we've helped tens of thousands of people benefit from solar energy. We are dedicated to creating a clean, equitable, resilient energy system that benefits everyone — by helping people go solar, join together, and fight for their energy rights.

    About the Position

The Arizona Program Associate will work closely with the Arizona Program Director and the regional support team to carry out SUN’s goals in the state of Arizona. This position reports to the Arizona Program Director.

    Job responsibilities include:

    • Plan and implement solar collective purchase programs (solar co-ops and Solar Switch campaigns), including cultivating partner relationships, engaging with the media, conducting public information sessions, member communication and support, facilitating the solar installer selection process, and managing installer relationships with SUN members.
    • Provide technical assistance to individuals and entities interested in going solar.
    • Engage with legislators, local governments, the Arizona Corporation Commission, and partner organizations to advance the state program’s policy goals.
    • Maintain frequent communication with partner municipalities to coordinate outreach, plan engagement events, and provide general updates.
    • Coordinate with Community Impact Associate to develop grassroots community engagement and volunteer opportunities in urban and rural counties, including assisting with storytelling work.
    • Create and share resources and other content to provide in-depth information on relevant solar topics and help our Arizona members become more effective and informed advocates for solar.
    • Represent the Arizona SUN Program in coalitions and at in-person and digital events.
    • Organize and engage with a diverse range of Arizona solar supporters, including in urban, suburban, rural, and tribal communities.
    • Monitor the SUN of Arizona Facebook page and remove inappropriate/misleading posts.
    • Conduct policy, regulatory, and market research to support the state’s program goals.
    • If Spanish-speaking:
      • Provide support and answer questions from Spanish-speaking Arizona solar owners and supporters, including via email and over the phone.
      • Coordinate and collaborate with Spanish-speaking coalition partners to expand solar-related education and resources in Spanish.
      • Host or attend Spanish solar education information sessions or other in-person events (estimated 2-3 per year).

    Required Qualifications

    • Resident of Arizona
    • Minimum 2 years of experience (professional or volunteer) in community organizing, project management, and/or policy & advocacy campaigns
    • Access to reliable transportation, with frequent in-state travel (1-2 trips/month) and occasional overnight stays
    • Ability to plan and execute presentations and events, both virtual and in-person
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Proficient computer skills and ability to work in a remote environment

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Spanish-fluency
    • Ability to collaborate, network, and build relationships with diverse groups of people
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Eagerness to take initiative
    • Knowledge of social, energy, and/or environmental-related factors in Arizona
