LifeWay Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that joins the global movement against human trafficking by providing safe housing for women who have been trafficked and offering education about trafficking to the general public. LifeWay Network is one of only two organizations in the New York Metro area providing safe housing for women survivors of human trafficking. LifeWay Network provides safe housing for women who have escaped or have been rescued from a trafficking situation and need to be provided a safe and nurturing living situation where they can heal while receiving the services needed to enhance their growth. What sets LifeWay's Safe Housing Program apart in its four locations is the community living model. LifeWay Network is seeking a full-time social worker for its exciting safe house program serving survivors of human trafficking. LifeWay Network is one of the only organizations in New York City providing safe housing for this underserved population. The Social Worker for the LifeWay Network Safe Housing Program will be a key member of staff to provide a safe haven for women survivors of human trafficking. This position requires flexibility in location, with travel in multiple city boroughs, and in afternoons and evenings.


  • Welcome new guests to the home, orient them to the household and help them to adjust to the daily routine of the community
  • Participate in and lead the creation of a warm, welcoming home environment
  • Collaborate with house manager, host community members, and volunteers to work with all guests/survivors
  • Act as social worker for the guests/survivors at LifeWay Houses 1 and 2 and Bethany emergency and residence safe houses
  • Provide supportive counselling for the complex trauma of the women survivors, facilitate adjustment to the house, and to help survivors rebuild self-esteem and trust
  • Process initial inquiries and intakes for potential guests and prepare for Director of Safe Housing review and approval
  • Responsible for the after care program implementation (handles contact and follow-up with former guests/survivors) under the supervision of the Director of Safe Housing
  • Act as interim house manager and/or social worker in all safe houses when coverage is needed for program staff in the instance of emergencies
  • Responsible for managing emotional/behavioral crises or emergencies outside of working hours (on call for all safe house staff and host community)
  • Coordinate service delivery with the case management provider as per Memorandums of Understanding with social service agencies
  • Manage service plan reviews and discharge planning in conjunction with service providers
  • Coordinate house meetings and group meetings among guests in conjunction with the House Manager
  • Document case activity and report to Director of Safe Housing
  • Participate in all organization-wide staff meetings and trainings
  • Develop programming of activities and workshops for each location in advance
  • Facilitate and coordinate workshops, field trips, activities and support groups for guests
  • Participate in community living dinners once per week in the evening
  • Submit high quality and timely reports of case activity on a quarterly basis, in addition to providing weekly case reviews to the Director of Safe Housing
  • Submit high quality and timely outcome measurements and statistical information to the Director of Safe Housing on a quarterly basis and as requested for quality improvement purposes
  • Responsible to submit incident reports on an as needed basis to the Director of Safe Housing


  • Master’s degree in social work required
  • Prior experience in work with trauma victims preferred
  • Prior experience in shelter/residence management preferred
  • Thorough understanding of confidentiality and privacy procedures as they relate to a residential facility
  • Strong computer skills, and comfort with web-based applications and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and work independently in a remote environment as well as within a larger team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and listening skills
  • Demonstrated success with rapport-building in new communities, and ongoing relationship management

  • Availability to work weekend days or evenings as required for position, special events and activities (working schedule is likely Tuesday through Saturday)
  • Must have valid NYS driver license
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, bilingual English/French a plus
