About the Organizing & Political Director

The Working Families Party is building a national party of the left. We’re investing in building the base our country needs. WFP Organizers are part of a cadre of skilled organizers that help us build membership and elect transformative leaders to office.

The Wisconsin Organizing & Political Director will supervise Wisconsin staff, build and run electoral campaigns, ensure Wisconsin's alignment with WFP's regional and national goals (including development and communication goals), and manage key Wisconsin political relationships. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the Wisconsin electoral program, including both independent expenditure and coordinated campaigns and maintaining a long term strategy to engage and build WFP membership
  • Support the development of electoral tactics that build the strength of WFP’s membership, volunteers, and leaders, working in consultation with staff across the organization
  • Align political strategy with major organizational partners and organize around shared priorities
  • Ensure compliance with campaign finance rules and reporting to all relevant entities
  • Build and manage campaign and WFP Wisconsin budgets
  • Work with WFP Development staff to set and reach fundraising goals including via preparing grant proposals and reports 
  • Represent WI WFP in statewide coalitions including America Votes and ad-hoc coalitions such as Farmer-Labor Alliance and State Democracy tables
  • Oversee the state endorsement process
  • Support the political and professional development of Wisconsin organizing staff 
  • Ensure both national and state objectives are met and reconciled 
  • Work with national to develop and executive communications strategy including traditional and new media

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build a new state governance structure with input and buy-in from current ally organizations
  • Support broad Wisconsin personnel and party transition

Skills & Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of all aspects of electoral campaigning, including field, paid and earned media and communications, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and digital organizing
  • Demonstrated success with coalition building, particularly experience with aligning the plans of various allies into one coherent whole
  • Experience overseeing vendors and keeping them on task and on time
  • Comfort with managing multiple competing, complicated projects and priorities
  • A track record of building political power to advance issues even through intervening elections and legislature turnover
  • Ability to think creatively and design strategies and tactics that persuade and motivate voters and/or candidates
  • Strong competency with numbers and data, particularly comfort with NGP-VAN, Catalyst, CRMs, and spreadsheets
  • Experience creating, administering, and managing budgets and fundraising
  • Effective and persuasive speaking and writing skills and capable of listening empathically
  • History of building relationships with allies and internal colleagues
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Able to navigate tense, time sensitive, and stressful political and interpersonal situations
  • Sense of humor

What Else Should You Know?

Salary: The salary range for this position is between $65,000 to $80,000 annually depending on experience.  The final salary will be determined based on an internal equitable scale that takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. WFP also offers a competitive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays, and generous vacation and sick time.

Union Affiliation: WFP is a unionized workplace. This is a supervisory position, not included in our bargaining unit. WFP's union employees are represented by the New York Metropolitan Area Joint Board, Workers United union.
