$500-$800/month (DOE)

Summary and Objective:

The Young(ish) Program Manager will help to create and build our engagement strategy, connecting Jewish young adults across the SF-area to one another, our synagogue community and to a meaningful adult Jewish identity

We are looking for a strategic, enthusiastic people-person with professional experience in the nonprofit, community-building, and/or Jewish community space. This is a temporary, part-time job, but one that will be instrumental in the growth and success of building the next generation of leaders in our community.

All are welcome! We call ourselves Young(ish) because we are not a defined age group. We are not defined by whether we have a partner or children. Rather, we are young, Jewish professionals who are defined by a desire to be, schmooze, learn, drink, eat and do Jewish together. We’re committed to serving the needs of this community and making young adults a vital part of our inter-generational congregation!

The Young(ish) Program Manager will be the relational engagement champion, managing and inspiring Young(ish) as we connect thousands of SF-area young adults to Jewish life, to each other, and to a more meaningful Jewish identity. You will provide leadership to the lay-lead team, guide engagement strategies that best achieve our mission, work with the greater leadership team to build a stronger future for Young(ish) within the Beth Sholom community, and successfully develop your own portfolio of relationships with Jewish young adults.

  • A knowledge of synagogue life, Jewish practice and holidays, and a familiarity and comfort with Jewish texts
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to take initiative, prioritize and manage time
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Interest and creativity in social media and PR
  • The ability to think strategically and creatively
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Experience working with volunteers and lay leaders
  • A willingness to work some evenings and occasional Sundays
  • A willingness to work on the High Holidays and on some of the other Jewish holidays
  • Comfort and joy in a Conservative, egalitarian community

Manage the Young(ish) Committee - 50%

  • Supervise committee members: guide their engagement work and help them hone skills as community engagement professionals.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly engagement team meetings to discuss individual community members we serve and how to best meet their needs.
  • Learn and share out the larger trends emerging in the relational engagement field.

Oversee Engagement - 40%

  • Form relationships with young adults through one-on-one coffee dates (virtual??) and active participation in the wider SF community.
  • Plan and facilitate a mix of intimate and larger-scale experiences for Jewish 30s (e.g. Shabbat dinners, happy hours, giving circles, new experiences that you and the lay-leaders dream up).
  • Create and manage Young(ish) social media

Data and Administration - 10%

  • Work with our administrative assistant to produce approximately 1 newsletter/month and 1-2 event-related emails/month.
  • Maintain regular personal data entry to track, evaluate, and evolve engagement efforts with Young(ish).
  • Work with lay-leaders to bring innovative projects to life.
  • Execute office tasks as needed, including logistical preparation for your events, sending themed packages for events to community members (ie. a cocktail kit for a cocktail-making class), etc.
  • Liaise with other CBS programs and leadership

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Rolling; if this ad is up, we’re hiring!

LOCATION: Subject to local health orders. The synagogue is in the Richmond District of San Francisco, CA but is likely to be remote for the first few months with only occasional in-person needs.
