The Climate Action Campaign is a highly effective, unbranded coalition of national climate, conservation, and progressive groups, state and local partners, and key allies working to protect clean air and promote action to limit climate change. The Campaign regularly partners with national and state-based groups, as well as leaders from diverse communities, to promote climate action, defend against attacks on the Clean Air Act and climate change policies, and showcase the unyielding transition to clean energy driven by state, local and federal action.

Position Summary

The Public Engagement Deputy Director is responsible for working with the Director of Public Engagement to oversee the campaign’s engagement with NGO allies including diverse constituency groups. This position will manage independent portfolios including but not limited to: progressives, Veterans/National Security and others as assigned. They will also assist in the day to day management of the Public Engagement team and internal liaising with CAC leadership and departments.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Public Engagement Deputy Director responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


●      Establish new and existing relationships with partner organizations representing diverse constituencies.

●      Maintain relationships with partner organizations by facilitating weekly check-in calls or meetings to ensure grant deliverables are met.

●      Work well within and deftly navigate dense Coalition dynamics.


●      Serve as Coalition’s point of contact for respective constituencies and organizations, keeping Coalition management, internal departments, and direct supervisors apprised of latest intel from partner organizations and constituencies.

●      Co-manage the Public Engagement team with the Acting Director of Public Engagement.

●      Facilitate material delivery and development from Coalition to partner organizations

●      Work with Coalition and partner organizations to develop grants and contracts containing deliverables best suited for both parties. Deliverables could include earned media events, placed media opportunities, social media plans, and engagement with key stakeholders or decision makers.

●      Drive department reporting schedule and the annual or bi-annual partner assessments.

●      Work with Acting Director of Public Engagement to ensure outputs of the public engagement team align with the campaign’s overarching strategy.

●      Travel to events to provide on the ground direction when needed.

●      Provide written and verbal updates on program activity, including but not limited to planned activity around key moments, regular report backs on events and activity, ongoing database reporting, etc.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·       Bachelor’s degree/equivalent experience

•      At least 2-4 years political, organizing, media experience

•      Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills

•      Experience w/ MS Office Suite. Demonstrated proficiency w/ Excel and PowerPoint is required    

•      Ability to work in and adapt to a fast-moving environment, anticipate challenges, and to maintain discretion to advance campaign’s mission and goals

•      Effective communicator with staff and across departments

•      Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment, lead projects, meet deadlines, organize time and evaluate priorities

•      Impressive interpersonal communication skills who is able to communicate and work collaboratively with internal departments and external allies

•      Strong project management skills

•      Knowledge of database software

Compensation and Location
