The Development Manager’s primary responsibility is to implement and manage a comprehensive stewardship program designed to foster and nurture long-term, meaningful relationships between Voting Rights Lab and its donors. The Development Manager must collaborate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders including the Executive Director, program staff, donors, and more.  

This role will be part of our Operations team and report directly to the Executive Director.


  • Work closely with the ED to develop and execute on Voting Rights Lab’s individual giving strategy, building and maintaining a strong and engaged portfolio of major donors
  • Manage a pipeline of donors at the $5,000-$50,000 giving level and manage the process to qualify, cultivate, and solicit new donors
  • Develop and manage the stewardship and cultivation plan for these donors, including ongoing communication, donor briefings, and other stewardship events
  • Immerse yourself in the work that VRL is doing across the country, to best be able to share meaningful updates with our donors
  • Identify and implement strategies for keeping our current supporters engaged and apprised of the impact of VRL’s work across the country, collaborating across the team for data, evaluation, and programmatic report outs. This includes managing briefings and other events with our donors and crafting external communication materials. 
  • Leverage best practices in prospect research to identify new potential donors, update existing prospect information, and research and produce prospect memos that inform key leadership team members involved in fundraising of new and exciting opportunities
  • Maintain meticulous donor records, and in coordination with the broader Operations team, ensure we carefully track, acknowledge, and report gifts in a timely fashion;
  • Research and write compelling funding proposals, in coordination with others members of the VRL team
  • Support other development functions of a fast-growing team as needs emerge


  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a frontline fundraising role, directly interfacing with and cultivating major donors at the $5,000+ level
  • A track record of building strong networks and relationships that lead to direct philanthropic support and ability/comfort to make major gift asks
  • Excellent attention to detail, especially as it relates to handling sensitive information and tracking down data
  • An ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
  • A customer service mindset that centers our donors as a critical part of our work;

Compensation and Benefits:

The annual salary for this position is $64k - $78k dependent on experience.
