Collective Bargaining & Employer Relations (CBER) Specialist
Reports to: Collective Bargaining and Employer Relations Manager

Summary: SEIU 775 is the long-term care workers union, representing 43,000 home care and nursing home workers. The CBER Specialist will join an organization of researchers, specialists, field organizers and lobbyists who support innovative statewide, multi-state and national efforts, in the areas of collective bargaining, legislation and/or regulations, to improve the long-term care industry's practices with regard to worker wages and benefits, contract negotiations, contract compliance, patient care and public accountability. Work will include collective bargaining, labor/management initiatives, leadership development and representation, and additional responsibilities.
The CBER Specialist:
- Negotiates union contracts
- Assists in the recruitment and development of member leaders to participate on contract negotiations teams
- Coordinate contract negotiation and ratification campaigns in collaboration with organizers to build the union, engage members and win
- Coordinates the union’s Labor Management Committee program
- Engages in other areas of employer relations as assigned
- Recruits and develops member leaders to participate in the Labor Management Committee process
- Collaborates with organizers to engage and mobilize members it this process
- Provides support and leadership to the union’s grievance procedure and contract enforcement campaigns, including working with LiA (internal) organizers and leaders to plan and execute strategies
- Recruits and develops member leaders to serve as member Advocates in nursing homes, residential services, and home care agencies
- Supports, advices, and assists members, member leaders and Member Resource Center Representatives to utilize the grievance procedure, direct action, labor management committees and other forums to win just resolutions to workers’ problems
- Contributes to strategic contract campaign planning
- Builds and maintains relationships with assigned employer representatives to facilitate productive negotiations, contract enforcement, and Labor Management Committee outcomes
- Assures that the union meets its duty to fair representation
- Handles grievances, top step grievances and arbitrations as necessary
- Completes assignments to electoral, legislative and growth campaigns as required by the organization
- Other duties as assigned
A Collective Bargaining & Employer Relations Specialist must be able to organize their time and develop and carry out assignments with minimal supervision. They must also be able to receive direction from and work in coordination with his or her immediate supervisor, other team members, and other union staff.

- Social Change and/or activism experience
- Comfort with numbers and technology
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours when needed to meet deadlines, including but not limited to bargaining or campaign demands
- Advanced writing and communication skills in English
- Ability to work well and creatively under tight deadlines, in a team environment and independently
- Willingness to travel as needed
Compensation: Staff union pay scale ranges from $52,000 to $71,000, based on experience.
