Salary range starts at $40,000 and is commensurate with experience.

The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.

The Staten Island Justice Center (SIJC) offers an array of programming for both youth and adults in Staten Island, focusing on engaging those with current or past justice involvement, and those at-risk for justice involvement. SIJC operates two diversion programs—Project READY, an alternative to detention program that provides case management and rigorous compliance monitoring for young people with delinquency cases in Family Court, and Youth Impact, a peer-led restorative justice and leadership development program.

SIJC is seeking a Program Associate who will assist with Project READY and Staten Island Youth Impact programs. Reporting to the Youth Justice Coordinator and Director of Community Programs, the Program Associate will support compliance monitoring and reporting for court-involved youth in Project READY, as well as develop and facilitate weekly collaborative programming activities—including group workshops and individual mentorship sessions. The Program Associate joins SIJC at an exciting time as it continues growing its youth programming opportunities. Activities will take place virtually, on-site, and in the community.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with court-based compliance monitoring for Project READY mentees, including curfew monitoring, educational outreach, and weekly programming activities;
  • Schedule and facilitate intake appointments and assist with maintaining program participants files and other recording keeping responsibilities;
  • Provide mentorship to program participants and support to families;
  • Collaborate with other SIJC staff to create and facilitate youth programming, including developing and leading workshops on topics related to positive youth development and skill-building;
  • Facilitate restorative circles with youth and community members;
  • Write court reports, and communicate with court partners such as judges, lawyers, and probation officers;
  • Utilize online databases to track compliance and youth engagement;
  • Assist with recruitment and the creation of promotional materials for the Youth Impact program;
  • Provide referrals related to health, school, employment, pro-social and civic engagement as needed;
  • Provide coverage and support for other SIJC youth programming as needed;
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff development activities at SIJC;
  • Additional relevant tasks, as needed.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma and 3-4 years of equivalent experience at minimum, preferably with youth from underserved communities and/or youth who have been involved in the criminal justice system OR a Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of relevant experience. Good judgement, holistic and strengths-based approaches, excellent communication, as well as organizational and multitasking abilities are a must for this role. Candidates must have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and be able to provide crisis management as needed. The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator with an ability to balance their independent work and will be comfortable with technology and video platforms such as Zoom. Candidates must not have any pending criminal cases or prior convictions for sexual assault, child abuse, or domestic violence. Grant writing skills a plus, but not required. Strong knowledge of community resources on Staten Island is a plus.

Position Type: Full-time, 10am-6pm (some additional nights and weekend availability required, as needed)
