Reporting directly to the Development Director, this position is a key member of the Development Team and manages the development and implementation of funding requests and other related functions to support annual goals for corporate, foundation and government revenues for The Health Trust. Responsible for prospect research, proposal writing and reporting outcomes; managing annual submission and reporting schedules; coordinating with program, finance and development staff on funding requests and reports, and stewardship and communication with funders. Internal title: Institutional Giving Manager.


  • Manage foundation and government fundraising for the organization.
  • Research prospective institutional partners and cultivate new partnerships.
  • Create and manage annual proposal submission and reporting schedules.
  • Work with departmental leadership to identify and secure grants for new and existing programs and initiatives across all programmatic work.
  • Manage all aspects of the proposal preparation and submission process including working with the CEO, Development Director, finance and program teams to develop and prepare proposals. 
  • Work with program directors and managers to identify and articulate specific funding needs.
  • Write all foundation and government grant applications, proposals and reports, including preparing budgets, work plans and all required documentation.
  • Work closely with finance and program staff to create project budgets, provide financial reports and ensure the financial and legal fulfillment of all awarded grants.
  • Structure new requests, frame proposals for budgeting and program development in collaboration with program staff.
  • Coordinate and monitor that all proposal and reporting components are being addressed by relevant staff in order to meet internal and final deadlines.
  • Communicate regularly with staff about funded projects and participate in program discussion to develop ideas and strategies for developing new prospects and programs or activities.
  • Track and manage the receipt and acknowledgment of foundation and government gifts.
  • Coordinate and compile written reports of grant deliverables and expenditures.
  • Steward institutional supporters throughout the year.
  • Advise and assist with usage of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge software as related to coding and recording grant funding in collaboration with the Development Associate.
  • Identify and support other fundraising opportunities in partnership with Development staff.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Marketing, English, or related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a grant writer or in a related field with demonstrated success.
  • Experience and proficiency with fundraising research and submission strategies.
  • Experience in writing successful government grants, including local, state, and federal grants preferred.
  • Experience with corporate philanthropy, private foundations, and grant making preferred.
  • Proven track record of working effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, deadline driven environment. Must be able to multitask with strong attention to detail and be adaptable to change with minimal oversight.


  • Requires a strategic thinker with the capacity to translate multidimensional initiatives and programs into targeted grant requests.
  • Ability to conceive, plan, and execute a grants strategy that includes corporate and private foundations, institutional partners, and government funders.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative; persistence and excellent follow through.  
  • Superior writing skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to be innovative, creative and an independent thinker.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare proposals, budgets and report outcomes for a wide variety of projects.
  • Knowledge of grants research and application processes.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects with limited time.
  • Excellent problem solving and planning skills, with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively work with senior management, board members, volunteers, donors, community partners and all staff levels.  
  • High level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.  
  • Self-motivated with the ability to thrive under pressure and on deadline.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Employment background screening required.


  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. 
  • Local travel required.
  • Occasional need to work evenings/weekends.
  • Temporarily remote, flexible schedule.
