The Staff Accountant supports Montgomery County Coalition for the Homes and Coalition Homes and is responsible for full cycle accounting including but not limited to accounts payable, bank deposits, journal entries, expense management, bank reconciliations and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process all Accounts Payable invoices; prepare checks for payments, obtain signatures, and distribute/mail checks
  • Expense management and monthly inter-company allocations
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Reconcile monthly credit card statements and verify accuracy of charges
  • Reconcile security deposits account and process security deposit refunds
  • Reconcile and maintain account schedules including rent schedules
  • Maintain files for contractor agreements, leases, consultants, etc.
  • Maintains W-9 files for all vendors. Ensures receipt of W-9 for all vendors prior to payment
  • Make bank deposits and record deposits in accounting system
  • Respond to inquiries from tenants, vendors and staff
  • Assist in audit preparation
  • Administrative duties and other projects as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Associates Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience. BA/BS degree highly preferred
  • Minimum five years related accounting experience in a fast-paced office environment
  • Functional knowledge of Yardi (or similar property management system), QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel 
  • Functional knowledge of basic accrual accounting principles
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work with accounting complexity for multiple entities and cost centers
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and write routine reports and document as well as the ability to perform simple math functions
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees and vendors and provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to effectively solve problems through the use of analytical skills
