Provides audio and video engineering design expertise at a leadership level to the Recording and Classroom Technology Department; provides audio/video engineering services.


Responsibilities:

Design and implement audio, video, and network systems for recording/streaming/live sound will include

·        Assist the Director in establishing technical goals and direction for the department, as he strives to propel the department into a tech-forward future.

·        Provide new ideas and use cases for current and future Educational Technology.

·        Recommend and specify audio and video equipment and ancillaries necessary for new systems and upgrades.

·        Develop tactics to help the Director implement EdTech aspects of a school-wide strategic plan.

·        Work closely with IT to ensure efficient and high-performance interoperability with Recording.

·        Assign, supervise, and occasionally perform basic maintenance on audio, video, and network equipment.

·        Schedule and perform regular check-ups to verify correct operation.

·        Manage AV vendors to ensure highest performance.

·        Coordinate shipping and receiving of units needing repair.

·        Maintain repair records of all equipment and systems.


Engineer audio and video recordings and live sound will include

·        Record and/or edit audio and video recordings of student, faculty, and visiting artists’ performances at the highest conservatory level.

·        Engineer student and faculty recording sessions in the (dedicated) Juilliard recording studio.

·        Operate HD video camera for multi-camera video recording and live streaming of student and guest performances.

·        Troubleshoot audio and video equipment during rehearsals, sound checks, and events at the school and beyond.

·        Assist with setups when technical expertise and advice is required.

Assist and complement audio and video engineers in Recording and Sound Reinforcement tasks will include

·        Supervise and/or assist the AV Technician in maintaining a detailed and accurate inventory of microphones and all other recording equipment, and in managing the workshop area and storage of equipment.

·        Provide technical assistance, training, and mentorship to staff engineers and work-study employees.

·        Perform related duties, as assigned, to support school and department operations.

Qualifications:

·        Five or more years technical experience in audio and video.

·        BS/MS EE degree or MA/MS/MM Audio Technology degree preferred.

·        Interest and ability to work in a world-class performing arts teaching environment required.

·        Interest in Classical and Jazz music preferred; dedication to supporting a vibrant dance, drama, and music community will be expected.

·        Strong technical skills in analog and digital electronics and logical approach to problem solving.

·        Knowledge and experience with stereo and multi-microphone techniques, digital consoles, signal processing, signal flow, and gain structure.

·        Familiarity with relevant networking technology required, e.g., Dante.

·        Experience with industry-standard audio and video workstation software, such as Pro Tools and Final Cut Pro, preferred.

·        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required, including the ability to write email correspondence with appropriate style and tone.

·        Must possess a strong customer service ethic and situational awareness.

·        Able and willing to work extended hours, nights, and weekends as needed.

·        Ability and desire to learn and apply new skills.

·        Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
