Overview

CFR Outreach targets communities in a cross-section of American life, including educators and students; congregational leaders, religion scholars, and representatives of faith-based organizations; state and local officials; and local journalists. The program coordinator will primarily support CFR’s Religion and Foreign Policy (RFP) Program, which advances understanding of the forces shaping international relations through exchange between faith leaders and policymakers. The coordinator will work together with another team member to broaden outreach to this constituency and disseminate CFR resources. Core programming activities include a conference call series, a roundtable series, and an annual workshop in New York which brings together clergy, seminary heads, scholars of religion, and representatives of faith-based organizations to address pressing global issues.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Coordinating the planning and logistics of the religion and foreign policy Outreach conference calls, roundtables, workshops, briefings, and participation in outside conferences including drafting and sending event-related correspondence, tracking responses and participation, researching background materials, preparing meeting materials, drafting thank you notes, updating meeting records in the database, completing post-event reports, and participating in brainstorming for program topics
  • Cultivating strong relationships with new and existing religion and foreign policy Outreach constituents by supporting the vice president of Outreach’s email correspondence and calls
  • Overseeing, documenting, and developing strategy for communications with the Religion and Foreign Policy Advisory Committee
  • Maintaining a large database of contacts and using it to analyze trends, research target audiences and speakers, and expand religion Outreach constituents through constituent profile research
  • Implementing the print, online, and social media marketing of CFR materials and publications to Outreach constituents and tracking the results
  • Developing creative ideas for broadening the constituency base, increasing participation in the program, and reaching more individuals with CFR resources
  • Collating CFR and Foreign Affairs content for use in the Religion and Foreign and Policy Program web portal, monthly bulletin, and dedicated Twitter account
  • Tracking of activities in calendars, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Providing general project support to the department, including attending and working at National Program and Outreach events held outside of business hours

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of work in an office setting with administrative, programming, and project management responsibilities, especially on issues related to religion and foreign policy
  • Degree in a field related to religion and foreign policy with high academic achievement
  • Experience working with diverse sectors and leaders, preferably with government actors, religious leaders, academics, and related constituencies
  • Understanding of and interest in diverse faith traditions and religious communities in the United States and general current knowledge of international relations and U.S. foreign policy issues
  • Superior organizational and time management skills with an ability to effectively multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Detail oriented with strong proofreading skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to take initiative as well as work as a team player
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, data visualization, and database skills
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, and representing data preferred
  • Social media experience preferred
