The Director of Development & Marketing, (DDM) reporting to the Executive Director, is

responsible for developing and implementing the fundraising, marketing and communication

strategy for City Year San Antonio to raise and sustain at least $1.7M from the private sector and

grow private sector funding annually. The DDM will oversee major gift solicitation and corporate

and foundation relations, while managing the Development Manager (DM), who supports frontline

fundraising efforts, and the Development Operations Manager (DOM), who oversees efficacy of

development operations systems, event planning and marketing and communications. The DDM

will be responsible for achieving the site’s annual private sector fundraising goals and stewarding

City Year’s financial supporters through ongoing engagement. Additionally, the DDM will serve on

the site’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT), helping to drive and support site-wide initiatives and

projects.


To be successful in this role, a candidate must possess strong interpersonal, writing and

presentation skills, motivate and inspire others, and demonstrate a strong presence among site and community leadership. The ideal candidate will be a strong strategic thinker with the ability to

manage short and long-term plans and goals and have a record of achieving results in a team-based environment.Job Description

Responsibilities:

Strategic Fundraising Plan: Develop and implement a strategic and diversified annual fundraising

plan to meet current needs, as well as anticipate future growth objectives. Develop a pipeline of potential corporate partners and individual donors whose priorities align with CYSA’s program. Develop innovative strategies to promote individual giving, as well as effectively cultivate and steward current and future major donors. Lead annual revenue planning in partnership with the Executive Director.

Site Fundraising: Execute annual fundraising plan to ensure private sector fundraising goals are met and sustained. This includes effective identification and cultivation of new donor prospects and cultivating and managing current donor base of individual, foundation and corporate partners. Create compelling marketing collateral, presentations and impact reports for existing and potential partners. Facilitate funding opportunities, including team and program sponsorships, as well as develop creative funding strategies to help broaden and diversify CYSA’s private sector portfolio.

Event Production: Lead all event-based fundraising efforts, including online campaigns and special events. Oversee solicitation and management of sponsorships from new and existing corporate and individual event donors. Lead, in partnership with the Chief of Staff, the event vision and programmatic aspects of all special events, virtual and in-person. Partner with the Board to meet event fundraising goals. Oversee and support the event logistics through management of the Development Operations Manager.

Board Engagement: Support the Executive Director with the management and engagement of the CYSA Board, including serving as site lead for the Board Development Committee and supporting Board stewardship, communications and quarterly meetings.

Staff Management: Manage a team of development professionals to meet annual private sector fundraising goals. Manage, coach and lead the DM and DOM to meet their individual goals. Train and lead other staff to support fundraising efforts and encourage professional development opportunities through local organizations and the national City Year network.

Basic Qualifications:

• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.

• Five years of progressively responsible fundraising/development/nonprofit leadership

experience with proven track record in meeting/exceeding goals; knowledge of sales cycle.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to customize

communications based on donors’ preferred method of engagement.

• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

• Ability to deliver inspiring and succinct presentations and conduct productive meetings.

• Demonstrated management of personnel.

• Strong and efficient use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of Salesforce preferred

but not required.

• Ability to work with diverse groups of young adults in a fast-paced entrepreneurial team

environment.
