avenue church nyc has been helping Yorkville grow since 1877. The congregation first offered worship and multiple levels of outreach as Bohemian Brethren Presbyterian Church at 351 East 74th Street, and continued in service as the congregation renamed Jan Hus Presbyterian Church at the same location.  The congregation has been most known for its ground-breaking ministry of LGTBQIA+ inclusivity and for serving tens of thousands of the City’s most vulnerable people each year with a justice-centered welcome and material goods to serve their most basic needs. (See http://www.UOCNYC.org to learn more about our mission, which became a stand-alone 501c3 in 2018.)

In 2019, the congregation began to convert a century-old factory building at 1745 First Avenue into a new church home. In 2021, Avenue Church NYC opened for worship in this location. Here we will cultivate multiple levels of ministry that will embolden an even stronger church to address the diverse needs of New York City.

Over the last two years, we have prayed for guidance on how to staff Avenue Church NYC. During this period, the pandemic, construction demands and delays, as well as the routine ebb and flow of life have informed us that an unqualified love of humanity, a passion for Christ’s church and identifying compatible, companionable team players shall take priority over all else. “Get the right people and the rest will work itself out.” By the power of the Holy Spirit, this team will shepherd Avenue Church NYC to help heal the brokenness of the world.

To this hope, avenue church nyc, seeks a Welcome Desk and Worship Host. This person will facilitate congregational growth and community impact by embodying Avenue Church NYC values, supporting the work of the staff and space users and the worship life of the congregation.
