Communications and Membership Officer, Full-time (GLOBAL)

The International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) is seeking a remote, full-time Communications and Membership Officer to support the growth and visibility of the work of our international network of over 6,500 women judges.

About the IAWJ:

The International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization whose members represent all levels of the judiciary worldwide and share a commitment to equal justice for women and the rule of law. Created in 1991 by a core group of 50 dynamic and visionary women judges from around the world, the IAWJ has grown into a highly respected organization with over 6,500 members in more than 100 countries and territories.

Background:

The IAWJ is implementing a five-year initiative, funded by a Co Impact grant, that seeks to advance women’s leadership in the law and explicitly address the barriers of women and girls face when accessing justice. This initiative will allow the IAWJ to grow its membership, enhance its outreach in the Global South, and expand its programming worldwide. This position is funded by this grant. 

About the position:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications and Membership Officer will collaborate with a small and dynamic team to advance the IAWJ mission and vision through member management and engagement, external and internal communications, social media and online content development, and partnership management.. The successful candidate will possess demonstrated communications experience, strong project management skills, and the ability work effectively with a global team. They will be detail-oriented, have outstanding judgment and cultural competency, and be able to address common problems and concerns independently.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement an overall IAWJ communications strategy and plan based on organizational priorities and needs
• Carry out new membership engagement and growth initiatives with a focus on the Global South and underrepresented nations
• Oversee content development and growth of the IAWJ online presence through its website, monthly podcasts, quarterly newsletter, and social media platforms
• Develop IAWJ strategic and partnership materials, including annual reports and governance documents, and ensure their compliance with non-profit best practices and US 501(c)(3) regulations
• Direct membership management activities, including membership renewal and fundraising campaigns
• Communicate regularly with members and the public about the IAWJ and its work
• Support the Executive Director, the Director of Programs, and the International Board in the development of member and partner focused activities and events
• Supervise the work of the Communications and Membership team - the membership associate, communications consultant, and department interns

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Three (3) years professional experience in member relations, communications, or public/external relations; preferably with a nongovernmental organization or global non-profit
• Strong ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish and/or French, both verbally and in writing
• Adept at using digital technologies and social media to convey a narrative and drive engagement
• Prior experience with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) writing and best practices required
• Strong writing and editing skills as demonstrated through prior publication experience (print and/or digital)
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
• US Citizenship or ability to work in the United States preferred but not required

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of graphic design tools such as Canva and Adobe Illustrator
• Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM)systems
• Experience living or working in the Global South

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, 40 hours/week fully remote position with a salary range of 50,000 – 53,000 USD (US dollars). For foreign applicants, 600 USD will be available as pay in lieu of benefits. For US applicants, IAWJ provides health, life, and retirement benefits. All applicants will be entitled to the IAWJ vacation, sick and holiday benefits.
