City Year Kansas City (CYKC) is seeking an Impact Director (ID), who is responsible for the overall management of day-to-day programmatic operations, and achievement of service outcomes. Reporting to the Managing Director of Impact (MDI), the ID supervises a portfolio of four-to-five Impact Managers who directly manage approximately 35-45 AmeriCorps members to meet their service goals and have a rewarding year of service.

Strong management skills and a track-record of successfully managing others to achieve goals is imperative to be successful in this role. The ID oversees and fosters opportunities for AmeriCorps member development, ensures strong service impact in each of CYKC’s schools, and coaches Impact Managers to achieve all site, team, and school related goals. Specifically, they will ensure the right conditions and resources are in place for City Year AmeriCorps members to deliver attendance, behavior, and course performance interventions for off-track students. The ID will also partner with the MDI to drive strategy to promote the long-term sustainability of the site, fostering strategic relationships at the school house and community level, and serve on the site’s Impact Leadership Team.Job Description

Impact Manager Management

  • Develop, manage, and coach 4-5 Impact Managers through daily contact, site visits to schools, weekly check-ins, beginning-of-year goal setting and planning, mid-year and end-of-year performance reviews, and professional development opportunities.
  • Hold Impact Managers and school service teams accountable to meeting monthly, quarterly, and annual Impact goals and administrative deadlines.
  • Facilitate best practice sharing across teams.
  • Support and work with Impact Managers to ensure that AmeriCorps members are in AmeriCorps compliance.
  • Support Impact Managers in overall professional development including career planning and seeking out learning opportunities in City Year, and externally.

Service Impact

  • In partnership with Impact Managers, implement CYKC’s Observation and Coaching (O&C) model to support the WSWC practices and overall AmeriCorps member efficacy in their work with students.
  • With the Impact and Evaluation Director (IED) and Managing Director of Impact (MDI), track Impact Manager’s data deliverables, teams' progress and general service impact.
  • Work with Impact Managers to ensure quality of day-to-day service implementation.
  • Support Impact Manager in placing AmeriCorps members in classrooms and troubleshooting any partner teacher issues that may arise.
  • Ensure high safety standards are met for all in-school, after-school, and out-of-school activities where City Year is the lead partner, or is working in partnership with the schools, district, or other community partner.

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with principals and school liaisons, and serve as supervisory contact.
  • Ensure Impact Managers are building strong relationships with school site stakeholders.
  • Establish presence during any City Year and/or school crises.
  • With Impact Managers, Co-create and oversee neighborhood engagement strategy.
  • In partnership with the MDI, identify barriers to service implementation, at the school and district levels, and support in trouble-shooting solutions.
  • In partnership with the MDI, support the site to formally recommit all existing City Year school partners, by the end of the school year.

Corps Member Management

  • Oversee the overall leadership development and service of a cohort of 35-45 AmeriCorps members.
  • Serve as site point for all Impact and ACM Operations including, but not limited to: on-boarding and off-boarding AmeriCorps members, ACM uniform distribution and management, distribution and management of ACM technology, setting up ACM school log-ins and access to school systems, etc.
  • Support and maintain site’s adherence to standards, national programmatic baselines, and AmeriCorps compliance measures.
  • Meet site retention goal.
  • Meet as needed with Impact Managers and AmeriCorps members regarding team management, accountability and standards issues, and manage disciplinary action regarding AmeriCorps members.
  • Communicate with Impact Managers regarding AmeriCorps member development needs.
  • Provide overall support for all AmeriCorps member training sessions.

Observation, Coaching, Training and Development

  • In collaboration with the Impact and Evaluation Director and Director of Equity and Learning, manage the data tracking system for Observation & Coaching.
  • Ensure student-level impact by supporting ACM Observation and Coaching at 4-5 schools.
  • At the end of each observation day report team-level trends, ACM action items, adjustment recommendations, and other topics of interest.
  • At the end of each cycle, request training topics and audiences to be incorporated into scope and sequence to the Learning Department.
  • In collaboration with the Learning Department, create and implement a plan to equip AmeriCorps members with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve interventions in Social-Emotional and Academic Development (SEAD)
  • Design and/or facilitate as site-level, portfolio-level, and/or team-level training as needed.

Participation in Organizational Initiatives

  • Participate in both individual and site-wide learning opportunities centered on Diversity, Belonging, Equity, and Inclusion (DBIE) practices.
  • Contribute to Impact Department operations by leading on short-term and/or annual projects to improve overall service impact and/or ACM experience. 
  • Partner with CYKC’s departments and staff through applicant interview process, stakeholder engagement, event, and service day participation and cross-departmental committees as needed to ensure site-wide goals are met.
  • Assist with Martin Luther King Day, Opening Day, Annual Gala, Graduation, and other side-wide designated events.
  • Attend overnight events including retreats, and other local and national events.
