Make the Road States is seeking an experienced coordinator who will be responsible for providing robust coordination across the Make the Road States organizations in Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with the overall goal of maintaining a powerful interconnected network. The coordinator will ensure that the work across the Make the Road family of organizations is in alignment with overall strategic goals and executed locally at each state organization. The coordinator will be key to our ability to help lead the progressive movement and win victories that improve the lives of our community members. This position will report to the Executive Director of Make the Road States and collaborate closely with State Directors.

The Organization

Make the Road States (MRstates), a 501(c)(3) organization, is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada. It is a sister organization to Make the Road NY. Our organizations lift up the voices of working-class people, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color. Each Make the Road organization has become a leader in their respective state on issues like immigration, education, and economic justice. Collectively, we represent over 30,000 members and reach thousands more through our actions, services, and policy impact. We work through a shared model and collaborate closely on campaigns, leadership development, fundraising, and financial and Human Resources management. 

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Campaign Coordination and Support: Coordinate the network’s engagement on national campaign issues in collaboration with the Directors and leadership teams of each state. 
  • Logistical Coordination: Coordinate logistics for key events, convenings, projects, etc. 
  • Fundraising Coordination: Help coordinate fundraising efforts that include significant engagement from Make the Road State Directors, leadership and development staff. 
  • Finance and Human Resources Coordination: Coordinate process of updating key financial/budget and HR information and serve as key liaison between state directors and central finance and HR teams. 

Other Key Responsibilities: 

  • Liaise amongst all State Directors and the Executive Director of Make the Road States 
  • Ensure that financial, HR and other key protocols and procedures are followed 
  • Coordinate key meetings and ensure attendance and all meeting needs are met 
  • Monitor key project deliverables and alert state directors and executive directors of relevant outcomes
  • Attend board meetings and create meeting minutes and work plans 
  • Assist Executive Director and State Directors on preparing for key meetings, including board meetings, joint organizational meetings and membership events 
  • Collaborate with Compliance Manager to guarantee that data and reports are accurate and available in a timely manner
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the Executive Director and State Directors. 


  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree plus 2 or more years of significant work experience Eligible to work in the United States 
  • Organizing or social justice experience: At least 2 years of experience working in similar organizations and communities. Familiarity with the Make the Road model is a plus;
  • 2+ years of experience in coordinating complex projects, across multiple areas (finance, HR, logistical, campaign, etc), and across multiple stakeholders. Ability to travel to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, New York and Nevada on a regular basis (public health conditions permitting);
  • Experience in or concrete knowledge of campaigns and policy around immigration, education, LGBTQ justice, economic justice, youth organizing, climate, and civic engagement; Bilingual in English and Strong spoken and written Spanish;
  • Demonstrated analytical and strategic planning skills;
  • Significant experience coordinating multistate work is preferred.

Salary Range: $70K - $80K Annually
