Research Analyst

The National Alliance to End Homelessness (Alliance) is an influential national nonprofit devoted to finding and advancing solutions to homelessness. Our team is focused on making an impact. We seek a Research Analyst to help grow the work of our Homelessness Research Institute (HRI). 

Who we are looking for: 

The ideal candidate is committed to using data and research evidence to find solutions to homelessness, and to building the knowledge base that will help policymakers and practitioners implement those solutions. 

What you will do: 

The Research Analyst works with the HRI team to produce research and analysis. 

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

• Analyze US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Census, and other federal datasets.
• Research best practices and model programs.
• When appropriate, contribute to qualitive research.
• Conduct literature reviews and monitor emerging research.
• Author or co-author reports, policy briefs, articles, blog posts, and other materials.
• Respond to information and data requests from the media, practitioners, and fellow staff members.
• Assist with the management of the Alliance’s Research Council and collaborate with the Council to implement a national research agenda on homelessness.
• Assist with Alliance conference preparation, including speaker identification and workshop planning.

What a successful candidate will need:

• A strong interest in homelessness, housing, racial equity, and/or poverty. 
• Minimum of 3 years prior work experience.
• M.A. or B.A. with additional years of research/data experience.
• Excellent writing and communication skills, including an ability to be clear and concise when writing publications, creating charts, and making presentations. 
• Experience with manipulating and analyzing data in Excel or other software.
• Excellent analytical skills, including an ability to initiate and contribute to team projects.
• Ability to be detail-oriented and maintain high standards of accuracy.
• Willingness to develop new skills

Additional Qualifications:

Ideally, candidates would have demonstrated experience with two or more of the below.

• Researching model programs and best practices.
• Conducting literature reviews of social science studies and government reports, including the ability to understand the limitations of research designs and findings.
• Analyzing large data sets using statistical software (e.g., R, SAS).
• Designing, conducting, and analyzing surveys.
• Conducting interviews, focus groups, and other forms of qualitative research.
• Creating data visualizations using software such as Tableau and GIS.
• Creating infographics, animations, and/or short videos to communicate ideas.
• Any other data analysis or research skills that can be used to help solve social problems.
