We aspire to support individuals, families and their communities to realize improved health outcomes that lead to years of good health, so they can reach their full potential.  The Global Program teams at the organization lead this work, working with our partners in over 40 countries through our Access to Medicines and Medical Consumables and reaching a total of 84 countries and 50 states through our work annually.  The teams include the International Partnerships & Programs team, the US Team, and the Emergency Programs team, which encompasses emergency preparedness and risk reduction, emergency response, and disaster recovery.

Americares responds to 25-30 disasters a year in the US and around the world.  Our goal is to save lives and protect and improve health threatened by disasters. We achieve this by providing medicines and medical supplies, restoring health facilities and systems, providing mental health and psychosocial support, and preventing the spread of disease.

POSITION SUMMARY

Americares is seeking a Puerto Rico Program Manager based in the U.S., to play a leading role in organizing and mobilizing our recovery efforts in Puerto Rico. The Manager will report to the Director, Complex Emergencies and will work closely with the Puerto Rico Recovery Director. In this role, the Manager will provide programmatic guidance and operational support to the team on the ground and contribute to health program planning, development, monitoring and reporting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the focal point between Stamford, CT headquarters and the Puerto Rico office, coordinating between departments in HQ to enable efficient operations
  • Work with the Recovery Director to design recovery programming consistent with Americares strategy and mission
  • Support field data management and facilitate planning and reporting mechanisms in HQ
  • Assist in recruitment operations for recovery staff, working closely with HR and Recovery Director
  • Work with the logistics team to conduct project cost estimating, identifying program supply requirements, facilitating access to medicine programming, and forecasting future needs
  • Work with the development team to plan and execute donor engagement
  • Collaborate with Global Programs leadership across departments to increase program effectiveness and develop multi-year program strategy for Puerto Rico
  • Provide technical input to current processes and review proposals as needed
  • Contribute to capacity building and/or operational excellence of Puerto Rico staff
  • Support budget development, management, and expense reporting

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, program management, international development, international relations, or equivalent. Master’s preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience leading health programs, preferably at an NGO, or managing a field office
  • Health program development and implementation experience required
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish required
  • Awareness of emergency programming and key stakeholders
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Ability to travel
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Experience in information gathering, management, and sharing
  • Strong organizational skills, comfortable multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to operate independently in HQ and as part of the team in PR
