Temporary Emergency Rental Assistance Outreach & Program Coordinator

The Housing Rights Center (“HRC”) is seeking a temporary Emergency Rental Assistance Outreach & Program Coordinator. The Department consists of the Program Manager and two other Coordinators.

BACKGROUND:        In existence since 1968, the HRC is dedicated to achieving discrimination-free housing as well as educating communities on landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities. Even as the economy continues its recovery from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of Angelinos face rental debt and fear evictions, as the temporary tenant protections are due to expire September 30, 2021. COVID-19 has exacerbated an affordable housing crisis that predated the pandemic and continues to exacerbate disparities that threaten housing stability. To meet this need, the Emergency Rental Assistance programs make funding available to assist eligible households that are unable to pay rent or utilities. The Emergency Rental Assistance Outreach and Program Coordinator is a temporary position through December 31, 2021.

RESPONSIBILITIES:   The Outreach & Program Coordinator will:

·        Work on the CA COVID-19 Emergency Rental Relief Program and work closely with the Program Manager.

·        Utilize CA COVID-19 Rental Relief Program Dashboard to identify jurisdictions with high risk of evictions and low rental relief application submissions to conduct outreach and literature distributions.

·        Attend to phone appointments to answer program eligibility questions and provide linkage and referrals to other services.

·        Conduct circuit rider doorstep appointments (all collected information from the document pick-ups at applicant’s home must be uploaded to the portal daily)

·        Maintain accurate records of phone and doorstep appointments for weekly reporting.

·        Deliver and distribute outreach and program materials to digitally remote areas, community partners and stakeholders.

·        Attend weekly meetings.

·        Perform any other work duties requested by the Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:   Must have a demonstrated interest in civil rights and social justice issues and willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-paced environment.

SKILLS:     Must have excellent time management and organizational skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, critical problem solvers, flexible and adaptable and feel comfortable with meeting in person with applicants. Must have reliable transportation (an insured vehicle) to enable travel throughout Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Case Management experience is a plus. Knowledge of landlord-tenant and/or fair housing laws is a plus.

Spanish language fluency is a plus.

COMPENSATION:     Competitive Salary, depending on experience.

BENEFITS:  Mileage reimbursement for doorstep visits will be provided.

APPLICATIONS:        Please email a resume and cover letter to:
