Overview

The New York Public Library's Department of Communications and Marketing seeks a creative Social Media Associate with a passion for the Library and its mission, a love for all things literary, and the ability to engage the Library's social media communities. The Social Media Associate reports to the Director of Digital Communications.

The Social Media Associate will develop social media content, blog posts, and e-newsletter content; coordinate digital campaigns; track results; share expertise and support stakeholders; generate creative ideas and participate in brainstorming sessions; track results, analyze data, and share results.

Applicants should have experience managing social media professionally (on behalf of an organization), from brainstorming to planning to content creation to publishing, and they should be enthusiastic about writing, reading, and The New York Public Library.

Principal Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Digital Communications, the Social Media Associate will:

  • Write and curate inspiring content for campaigns that increase engagement with NYPL’s collections, reading recommendations, programs, and services
  • Schedule posts and coordinate the social media editorial calendar in collaboration with stakeholders  
  • Write and edit content for e-newsletters and other email marketing
  • Write blog posts as needed
  • Set up and manage quizzes, contests, and other engagement activities
  • Generate reports and translate data into actionable insights that will inform editorial decisions and content tactics
  • Assist branch and division social media practitioners with daily social media content recommendations and training
  • Solve problems creatively, proactively, and thoughtfully
  • Coordinate cross-promotions and events with other cultural organizations
  • Coordinate social media advertising campaigns
  • Stay on top of latest developments in social media

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one to two years of work experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Experience with social media publishing and monitoring tools (e.g., SocialFlow, Sprout, Meltwater)
  • Knowledge of current social media trends and tools
  • Ability to adapt voice to various NYPL channels
  • Positive, creative, and collaborative mindset
  • Basic image resizing/editing a plus
  • Track record of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the publishing, library, or literary field preferred
  • Basic image resizing/editing preferred
