The Shakespeare Theatre Company, a multi-venue Lort B+ theatre in Washington DC, seeks an experienced Front of House Manager (FOHM) to lead our professional House Management team. The FOHM manages the daily operations of house management, volunteer ushers, accessibility programs, and performance/event related operations in our two houses. The FOHM represents the company to our patrons and guests, and ensures the highest quality customer service possible. Other daily tasks include providing attendance reports, working with rental clients about attendee activities, meeting with other departments at STC to fulfill their needs at events, and other production-related activities. The FOHM will become familiar with each production quickly, and will be able to answer questions from patrons as well as other departments. As STC begins welcoming full audiences back to the theatre after the pandemic, audience safety will be at the very top of mind. Fearlessness in addressing patrons who are not following safety protocols will be key to making the full audience feel safe and protected. Anyone joining STC at this exciting time will be involved in transitions and new ways of thinking about what the classics mean to a modern audience. It’s important to STC that we engage in diverse thinking with new ideas for audience engagement, and the FOHM will be key in these changes by bringing the audience’s voice to the table. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits and an annual salary of $50,000.

If you are able to keep smiling through challenging situations, don’t take vague customer criticism personally, and believe that the show must go on, then STC is the place for you! This position is mostly late afternoon, evening and weekends, and requires an ability to multitask and respond quickly, calmly, and appropriately to emergency situations. Problem solving skills and an enjoyment of helping customers is a must. At least 2 years of supervisory experience is required, and having worked in a theatre environment is preferred. The most important talents a candidate can bring to this position are strong communication skills, rapid decision making and critical thinking, and outstanding customer service. This position requires regular lifting of up to 25 lbs, the ability to move quickly on stairs and flat areas, and First Aid/CPR/AED training will be provided.
