Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s Legal Advocacy Department has an immediate opening for a Health Care Navigator who will help link low-income individuals and families to appropriate and affordable health insurance. Our Health Care Navigator will play an integral part in helping uninsured New Yorkers access the quality health insurance they are entitled to, through the Affordable Care Act and the New York State of Health Marketplace.Our Legal Advocacy Department’s 14 attorneys and five legal advocates assist over 2000 low-income individuals and families each year with diverse civil legal issues such as housing, health care, government benefits, employment law and advance directives.  We operate through a multidisciplinary holistic approach to legal representation, such that our clients receive assistance not only with their civil legal needs, but also have access to our social workers, case managers, ESOL classes and more within our organization.  This synergy of legal advocacy and social services creates a powerful tool to achieve social and legal justice for those in need.


Responsibilities Reporting to our Director of Legal Advocacy, the Health Care Navigator will:

·      Conduct community outreach and education about health insurance, subsidies, and tax credits available through the New York State of Health Marketplace

·      Provide information, counseling, and intensive application assistance to eligible individuals including immigrants, low wage workers, homeless and formerly homeless adults, families with children and other low-income New Yorkers

·      Create and manage relationships with community-based partners with regard to health insurance access

·      Ensure quality assurance, data management and project evaluation for our Health Insurance Enrollment Program

·      Supervise volunteers and interns. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 A successful candidate will demonstrate: an interest in expanding access to health insurance and a commitment to social justice; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to respond sensitively to the needs of our clients; proficient computer skills; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. BA or BS degree with relevant experience required. Fluency in Spanish is preferred. Excellent benefits package.
