ABOUT FACING HOMELESSNESS

Facing Homelessness invites all of us to come closer, and to contribute our unique passions and skills toward the effort of ending homelessness. Each of our four key programs is an entry point for community members to get involved and make a difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness. 


ABOUT THE ROLE

The Development Manager will work with the Executive Director, staff, and board members to manage fundraising strategies for sustainable growth. Given the role's breadth, it will require a strong generalist who has a working understanding of donor relations, corporate partnerships, development operations, campaigns, events, and communications. The right candidate will join Facing Homelessness in a time of exciting growth, expansion, and possibility. We are seeking an energetic, creative, and organized fundraising professional who thrives in a startup environment and is motivated by growth, impact, and compelling problems. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Donor Development & Audience Engagement (25%) 

  • Cultivation and Stewardship: Collaborate with board and staff to plan, execute, and evaluate all activities in our Community Engagement Plan
  • Campaign Management: Plan, manage, execute, write collateral, and evaluate multi-channel giving campaigns and digital fundraising campaigns, including monthly recurring giving campaigns, GiveBIG and an end-of-year campaign
  • Events: Support implementation of donor events, including one evening fundraising event, small cultivation events, and stewardship events

Donor Relations (20%)

  • Major Gifts: Partner with the Executive Director to build a moves management-oriented, portfolio-based major gift effort that leverages key staff and board relationships with donors
  • Fundraising Asset Development: In collaboration with the Executive Director, craft proposals and documents that create the case for giving, both as general assets in fundraising and calibrated to specific donors
  • Cultivation: Craft, implement, and systematize donor cultivation activities in partnership with staff

Fundraising Management and Leadership (20%)

  • Partnerships: Proactively engage with Facing Homelessness leadership team, staff, board members, donors, peer organizations, and other stakeholders and partners
  • Development Plan: Execute and evaluate a comprehensive Development Plan for all areas of fundraising
  • Evaluation: Monitor fundraising progress and regularly evaluate and report on results 

Development Operations (15%)

  • Database Management: Use and manage the Little Green Light donor database, including gift and constituent entry, contact reports, queries, reports, and customization to emerging needs
  • Acknowledgements: Enter gifts in LGL and process and send out all gift acknowledgments in a timely fashion
  • Systemization: Continue to refine the organization’s use of electronic infrastructure for fundraising and communications; create smooth systems for linking different tools for different purposes

Institutional Relations & Grant Writing (10%)

  • Institutional Funder Relations: Develop and manage relationships with private and corporate foundations, including managing the timelines for grant and report submissions 
  • Grant Writing and Reporting: Collaborate with the Executive Director, program and finance staff, and external grant writer to write and submit grants and reports
  • Corporate Partnerships: In collaboration with the Executive Director, craft and refine a corporate partnership program to develop, maintain, and grow corporate relationships 

Communications, Marketing, and Influence Building (10%)

  • Multi-channel Communications: Support the growth of Facing Homelessness’ communications from a sole focus on social media to an intentional, multi-channel communications effort, with a particular focus on growing the organization’s strategic use of its email channel
  • Messaging and Storytelling: Partner with the Executive Director and Creative Director to develop key messages and ensure that all organizational communications are aligned and consistent


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for FH’s mission and a demonstrated commitment to social justice 
  • Background as a fundraising generalist, with success raising funds in individual and institutional giving
  • 3-5 years of experience in fundraising and development
  • Excellent oral, written and public speaking communication skills, including the ability to communicate the vision, goals and impact of FH to a broad array of audiences
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive, complex and/or controversial situations
  • Collaborative, creative and innovative; able to partner to develop and drive ideas from conception to reality 
  • Experience with donor databases and online fundraising tools
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Able to anticipate needs and be self-directed 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Passion for learning and teaching
  • Flexible with schedule to work nontraditional hours when needed
  • Bachelor’s degree encouraged but not required
