Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Revenue Management, IHI's Staff Accountant manages revenue recognition for IHI contracts, events and membership revenue, accounts receivable reconciliations and month/year-end close responsibilities. This generalist position entails a variety of additional accounting responsibilities and works closely with other members of the Finance team.

 

Position Responsibilities

Process all accounts receivable activities for events, memberships and contracts through the full cycle of accounts receivable:

  • Create journal entries and revenue recognition schedules
  • Creation of schedules and billing reconciliations for complex time and materials contracts
  • Monitor and manage the billing process
  • Perform all necessary collection procedures including collection letters and follow up
  • Process all cash receipts and ensure payments are being properly applied in the accounts receivable sub-ledger
  • Process customer refunds
  • Perform timely reconciliations of accounts receivable, deferred revenue and revenue recognition supporting schedules
  • Regularly review and update accounts receivable policies and procedures document to ensure document is accurate and up to date
  • Prepare the executive reimbursement reconciliation and related billing
  • Perform foreign currency exchange rate fluctuation gain/loss analysis
  • Identify and communicate to Controller training/continuing educational areas to improve upon or add additional skill

 

Month and year end close responsibilities:

  • Drive the month end close for accounts receivable, deferred revenue and related revenue accounts with a goal of closing the month by the 15th of each month
  • Ensure month end accounts receivable, deferred revenue and revenue recognition work papers are accurately prepared and reconciled to the trial balance
  • Identify areas to improve the accounts receivable function efficiency and implement streamlined procedures

 

Other areas and special projects

  • Assist in the oversight of select IHI budgets
  • Assist in the annual budget preparation process
  • Participate in the preparation and review of Finance Committee reports
  • Assist with the weekly cash flow projection
  • Assist the accounts payable staff member with the IHI faculty member payment process on an as needed basis

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a similar position
  • Experience in accounts payable required
  • Experience using Great Plains accounting system or similar accounting software a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of MS office, particularly Excel 
  • Knowledge of Accounts receivable management and revenue recognition
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Highly organized and flexible in dynamic environment
  • Willingness to assist in other areas of finance
