Democracy Reporting International (DRI) promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions worldwide. DRI analyses, reports and makes recommendations to the public and policy makers on democratic governance. DRI engages with drivers of change on the ground and accompanies political transitions through a long-term in-country presence.

 

DRI is searching for an experienced programme development and fundraising specialist with excellent networking abilities. Under the overall supervision of the Director of Programmes, the Programme Development and Fundraising Specialist will be responsible for coordinating our resource mobilisation, including developing and implementing a resource mobilisation strategy, ensuring a strong funding pipeline, building good relationships with prospective funding partners, communicating with external stakeholders and internal teams and building organisational capacities to sustain and grow DRI’s programmes You will be building and fostering networks with funding partners and coordinate DRI’s outreach and presentation to new funding partners. You should be well organised, proactive and interested in making impact in a field of continued and growing importance.

YOUR TASKS

Your specific tasks as Programme Development and Fundraising SSpecialist will include: 

  • Analyse the global donor landscape relevant to DRI’s global and country strategies and identify opportunities for programme development;
  • Develop, implement and monitor progress of DRI’s resource mobilisation strategy;
  • Develop materials for fundraising and outreach; 
  • Lead on the gathering of strategic intelligence regarding funding partners, with a focus on understanding their funding cycles, and upcoming calls for proposals; 
  • Design innovative outreach strategies for new and existing funding and project partners and establish and/or strengthen relationships with them;
  • Build relationships and promote awareness of DRI’s mission and work with key funding and project partners via face-to-face engagement and representation of DRI at relevant events;
  • Work closely with teams across DRI to provide guidance on translating early discussions with potential funding partners into concept notes and project proposals; 
  • Advise and support on the development of high-quality concept notes and project proposal documentation; 
  • Contribute to proposal writing for grant/contract applications;
  • Work with the DRI Finance Unit to have a good overall understanding of all revenue streams to priortise and coordinate fundraising efforts accordingly;
  • Provide overall quality control on programme development and donor liaison across the organisation;
  • Advise and assist DRI staff to maintain strategic and timely communications and reporting relationships with project funding partners; 
  • Build DRI’s internal capacity in relation to funding and partnership development by shaping, developing and facilitating team or individual training and coaching. 
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • At least four years of relevant work experience, including in programme development and/or resource mobilisation for a non-profit or international/regional organisation; preferably in areas of governance, democracy or human rights; 
  • A degree in marketing, communications, business, international development, political science, management or related fields;
  • Proven experience in securing multi-million Euro grants from bilateral and/or multi-lateral donors, foundations and major donors, through complex application processes
  • Thorough knowledge of the main actors and institutions active in the democracy support field globally; 
  • First-hand experience of designing programmes, including analysis of project and programme proposals in the governance and democracy field;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; 
  • Experience bringing together and motivating a variety of actors in designing and implementing programmes, involving staff from country teams as well as headquarters, giving overall direction to the work of the team, setting clear priorities and delegating effectively;
  • Excellent networking skills, able to cultivate relationships at all levels of seniority;
  • Good IT skills;
  • Fluency in written and oral English with working knowledge of German an additional asset;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, often against tight deadlines.

Preferred:

The following skills are considered as additional assets: 

  • First-hand experience of designing and implementing programmes, including analysis of project and programme proposals and field management experience in the governance and democracy field;
  • Experience in developing Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) frameworks, such as logframes, for programmes in the area of governance and democracy;
  • Knowledge and experience of developing programme budgets and monitoring their implementation, to take decisions and/or to advise on reallocation and ensure value for money and to produce policy advice in this area;
  • Established networks and connections to potential funding partners for DRI.
