GENERAL SUMMARY:

Oversee the general ledger and the flow of financial information produced in the areas of accounts payable, payroll, general and grants accounting.


DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Monitor the compilation and processing of transaction data (i.e. revenue, payroll, grant activity, etc.), including the review of monthly regular and recurring journal entries through general ledger templates and/or interfacing methods (e.g. upload ADP payroll data).

*Monitor the timely preparation of monthly bank reconciliations on all primary operating checking accounts and initiate approved online inter-bank transactions.

*Assist in the review and approval of bi-weekly payroll data produced through Human Resources.

*Assist in the review and approval of weekly Accounts Payable processing data.

*Supervise the General Accountant, Grant Accountants, and Accounting Assistant.

Monitor the analysis and preparation of journal entries for the Investment Portfolio and the Endowment Funds.

*Monitor the analysis and preparation of monthly private and public grant allocations.

*Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of the organization's accounting system, including all applications (i.e. general, accounts payable, cash, accounts receivable, asset and grants management).

*Maintain monthly communication with Grants Management Team regarding compliance issues, staffing, budgetary changes, and financial deadlines.

*Work jointly with the Director of Finance to ensure efficacy of financial policies and procedures, including procurement and compliance with federal and state regulations.

*Prepare monthly analyses of board-designated (long-term investments) and temporarily restricted (donor-stipulated gifts) net assets.

*Prepare adjusting entries and assist in the preparation of month and/or year-end closing transactions.

*Maintain and reconcile general ledger balance sheet accounts ensuring accuracy of reporting.

*Assist the Director in the preparation of monthly/quarterly financial statements; production of cash flow projections and monthly actuals-to-date report; and in ensuring the efficacy of the organization's budget process.

*Ensure the timely dissemination of monthly budget/actual reports to the management team.

*Perform other jobrelated duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.


EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

Minimum requirements include a degree in accounting, CPA preferred, and 5-10 years of experience in managing an accounting team with working knowledge of most facets of financial managment (preferably with a not-for-profit organization).
