What do you do all day?

The Senior Manager, Computer Science Program Design will lead K-12 Computer Science (CS) pathway-building efforts at NMSI. This includes managing the development of world class training and support materials to promote the organizational vision. As a member of the Teaching and Learning team, you will develop and implement coherent K-12 CS student learning pathways that open access and opportunity to Advanced Placement® and other advanced college-and career-readiness courses. Your work will help spearhead the creation of a design model for other K-12 STEM/STEAM initiatives NMSI is pursuing to impact student and teacher performance at the district/network-level. You will represent NMSI and manage external relationships with a newly formed coalition of nine evidence-based CS curriculum and professional development (PD) providers. In partnership with these providers, you design models and templates for K-12 CS curricula/PD to be delivered in both face-to-face and virtual settings.

The Senior Manager reports directly to the Senior Director, Program Design. This role can be based from our main office in Dallas or from a home office anywhere in the contiguous US.

What are the details?

  • Cultivate and manage strong working relationships with CS curriculum and PD partners to co-design connections that bring together evidence-based programs to form a cohesive K-12 CS pathway
  • Create design models and templates for K-12 CS curricula that that are coherent within and across grade levels in Computer Science and which leverage existing high-quality programs and resources
  • Develop K-12 design models and protocols that could be applied across disciplines and that leverage existing high-quality partners, programs, and resources
  • Work cross-functionally with the Program Management team, which works directly with our school district partners, in establishing and implementing coherent K-12 CS pathways in schools
  • Set the vision for Computer Science content development at NMSI; manage the design blueprints and production of all NMSI CS materials including lessons, assessments, training modules, online training and materials, assessments and other resources
  • Manage and evaluate the effectiveness of internal and/or external specialists in the development of student facing materials and teacher supports
  • Analyze data to inform development decisions regarding teacher professional development and/or curricular resources
  • Design and implement quality review protocols to ensure NMSI teacher and student development materials are among the best in the nation
  • Other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • Education – You have a Bachelor’s (BA/BS) with a Master’s preferred in Education, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Experience – You have 3 years of teaching experience along with 3+ years of proven experience designing curricula for K-8 or 9-12 teachers at the district/network/national level; AP course experience in CS preferred.
  • Connected – You are tapped into the national CS landscape. You are knowledgeable about the efforts of the national CS community and imagine ways NMSI can leverage them. You build strong connections with what individuals and organizations are doing to produce high-quality programs and resources.
  • Learning & Development Guru – You have a deep understanding of student learning and skill progressions in CS as well as expert knowledge in teacher development and adult learning strategies.
  • Innovator – You model big and innovative thinking and action for your colleagues, whether it be those who support schools in implementing a K-12 CS pathway, or other subject-specific designers like you who are striving towards designing for a K-12 STEM/STEAM solution.

  • Expert Communicator – You can tailor your communication to multiple types of audiences; you are a concise, compelling writer.

  • Tech Savvy – You can design teacher professional development or curricular resources in a variety of modes and platforms, with evidence of success designing materials for delivery online.
  • Organized & Productive – You are a master at project planning and managing competing priorities in, at times, an ambiguous environment. You don’t let distractions prevent you from meeting goals.
